We have a fantastic opportunity at HMP Five Wells to join the Novus education team as our Construction Curriculum Manager on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37 hours a week.


Job description

We are recruiting for a Construction Curriculum Manager to join our education team at HMP Five Wells. You will be managing a team of up to 9 Construction Trainers and be responsible and accountable for the day to day running, management and delivery of curriculum areas within the establishment. You will be working directly with the Local Education Manager and the prison Governor’s representatives.

You will play a key role in providing strategic and operational direction, managing, and coaching the Education team with a focus on driving high quality performance and outcomes. You will bring your experience to the role to inform effective strategies for supporting our learners’ complex needs and barriers.

The Prison security team are always on hand to ensure the lessons run safely and smoothly.

You will need patience, passion and understanding in your approach which will in turn help our learners to secure future employment opportunities post-release. We always try to cater to a learner’s individual needs and ensure we create a positive learner experience.


To be successful in the role, you will need:


  • Teaching qualification - minimum Cert Ed or PGCE • Degree or equivalent (including equivalent life / career experience)
  • Hold at least a Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE A-C) qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
  • Gain/hold and maintain a clean, enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
  • Have a history of working effectively with people presenting challenging behaviour.
