Our client is seeking visionary engineers to join their international team in Bristol, UK. This team pioneers liquid hydrogen-based electrical fuel cell propulsion systems, aiming for zero-emission flights for large aircraft platforms.


About the Project

The next phase of their initiative involves a £44 million project to develop a 2 MW cryogenic hydrogen-electric propulsion system, integrating advanced thermal management solutions and preparing them for flight demonstrations and commercial applications.


The Role

As Chief Engineer, you'll be the technical authority for the flight test programme, leading a multidisciplinary team in the integration of novel hydrogen technologies, coordinating with external partners, and ensuring all technical deliverables meet high standards and deadlines.


Responsibilities:

  • Guide the flight test programme and act as the primary technical contact.
  • Oversee technical deliverables, ensuring alignment with schedule and cost objectives.
  • Lead engineering design reviews and manage technical change and scope control.
  • Lead the integration of advanced hydrogen propulsion systems into a commercial airframe
  • Draft and deliver comprehensive ground and flight test plans.
  • Handle technical risk management at the programme level.
  • Provide day-to-day technical leadership and direction.
  • Ensure necessary engineering resources and equipment/test requirements are met.
  • Promote effective knowledge management within the team.
  • Assist in job appraisals and career development reviews.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor or Master Degree in Engineering
  • Experience in developing and certifying experimental flight-based hardware
  • Expertise in aerospace power propulsion systems
  • Prior technical approval authority
  • Experience in international, collaborative technical environments


Desirable:

  • Experience with hydrogen-based electrical propulsion systems
  • Experience operating at aircraft level with a major aircraft manufacturer
  • High-level interpersonal skills
  • Strong business and commercial acumen
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities
  • Proven ability to influence at all levels
