**Job Description - Support Broker**

**Job Purpose**:
The Support Broker will provide information, guidance and technical assistance to clients with a disability to enable them to access, organise and utilise opportunities, resources and services as necessary to live a self-determined life.

**Summary of Position Duties and Responsibilities**
- Using a range of person-centred approaches, work with the client to determine their life choices and develop a person-centred plan.
- Assist the client to identify funding and develop and record their personal budget
- Liaise with health and social work professionals, and personal budget support workers as directed by the client
- Assist the client to identify and sustain an effective personal support network of family, friends and paid/unpaid supporters
- Provide information and guidance around person-centred thinking, planning and action plans; risks and responsibilities of self-directed support; choosing providers with appropriate qualifications and registrations; personal rights; community resources and developing and sustaining support.
- Assist the client with developing effective recruiting, interviewing, appointing, timetabling, supervising and payroll practices including helping the client to determine worker pay rates based on funding, local workforce comparison and budget availability
- Provide explanation, advice and assistance in completing employer related paperwork to ensure understanding and fulfilment of employer responsibilities as set out in UK employment law.
- Provide information relating to workplace safety and assist with developing and implementing strategies for effective workplace injury prevention.
- Facilitate or arrange required training for workers and personal training in relation to human resource standards, basic problem solving and conflict resolution
- Assist the client to develop an appropriate process to complete performance reviews. Work with the client to develop appropriate procedures to manage worker performance if needed. Assist the client to understand and utilise appropriate staff management processes (grievance, disciplinary)
- Assist the client to promote their own health and wellbeing, rights and safety
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all communication and information related to the client, their employees and other people involved in their support in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations
- Work effectively as part of the team around the client
- Effectively communicate to benefit the client, including interaction with informal, paid and unpaid resources and networks in the community as well as professionals involved in supporting the client.
- Maintain contact with the client, maintaining a contact history, documenting activities, conversations and assistance provided.
- Assist with managing monitoring and reviewing the personal budget, including liaising with Local Authority representatives for budget reviews, and evaluation of monthly expenditure as required.

**Ultimately the role of the Support Broker is uniquely determined by each client utilising the Beams Brokerage Service and responsibilities may therefore vary.**

Criteria

**QUALIFICATIONS**

Good Educational Background including good level of English and Mathematics

Hold a relevant accredited qualification in Support Brokerage

Or

Be willing to attain a qualification in Support Brokerage

**EXPERIENCE**

A minimum of 2 year’s experience working with disabled children or young people

It would be advantageous for the applicant to have an up to date working knowledge of employment law requirements

Have an understanding of person-centred thinking, self-directed support and self-determination.

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team

Managing risk/carrying out risk assessments

Matters relating to disability, for clients, parents and carers

**SKILLS & ABILITIES**

Excellent listening skills

Ability to think clearly and analyse information

Ability to communicate at all levels appropriately, both orally, written and using communication aids or graphic facilitation.

Ability to calculate and manage a budget on behalf of clients

Ability to support and coach/role model good practice

Able to develop and supervise staff

Computer literate

Ability to write reports and maintain accurate records

Excellent organisational skills - Ability to organise, plan and take responsibility

Excellent communication and inter personal skills.

Ability to promote the work of the charity at marketing events

Ability to work as part of a team, or independently and with initiative

A sound knowledge of how disability can impact on the lives of disabled young people
