**The Role**
This is an opportunity to join our fast-paced Business Unit as a Casework Support Officer. The role holder(s) provide a key service in the efficient running of the Business Unit and can cover a wide range of tasks, both in our laboratory and office environments. The role holder will be expected to have a flexible approach to start and finish times, dependent on business need, within the core hours of 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday.
**Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities**
- To be responsible for general office duties, including filing, meeting visitors and handling incoming and outgoing mail.
- Maintaining key databases and assisting with data entry tasks (spreadsheet)
- Interaction with the National DNA Database, Police customer and Defence Scientists
- Booking travel arrangements and accommodation
- Booking in exhibits, estimating and invoicing
- Archiving and retrieval of hard copy and electronic files as required
- Support with the weekly Fire alarm test when required
- Scheduling of key preventative maintenance with internal customers and contractors to help ensure scientific instruments are kept in the best condition
- Supervising visits from contract engineers
- Monitor the fridge and freezer temperatures and maintain records for quality purposes
- To ensure laboratory consumables are restocked and maintained appropriately
- To clean laboratories in accordance with company procedures_. _
- To order, store and distribute office and laboratory consumables
- To actively manage and carry out the process of returns, transfers, retention and destruction of items submitted for forensic examination. Ensuring full continuity and chain of custody is maintained.

**Knowledge, Experience and Behaviours**
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Efficient and well organised
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, SharePoint and G-Suite
- Confident team player with a proactive and flexible attitude
- Exhibit high levels of concentration, accuracy and reliability
- Customer focused
- Display patience, determination, attention to detail and integrity at all times
- Minimum of 5GCSE’s at grade C or above to include English and Maths.

**Salary**: Competitive

**Contract**: Permanent
**Hours**: 37.5 hrs a week (7.5 hours a day between the hours of 8am and 6pm)
