**About the Service/Department**
Hestia is one of the largest providers of support to survivors on modern slavery in London and currently provides support in London and the wider south east region. Hestia’s modern slavery response team provides both outreach and accommodation to survivors both within and after the national referral mechanism. The team comprises of specialist advocates, managers and administrators.
**About the role**
The purpose of this role is to promote healthy family relationships in a way that allows children of survivors of modern slavery to flourish.
Published in October 2021, our latest Underground Lives report - Forgotten Children: The Intergenerational Impact of Modern Slavery - brought to the forefront the impact of the experience of slavery for mothers and children. “For children, a mother’s trauma can have a deep and lasting impact on their lives.[These children] need and deserve greater protection, support and care from the wider system.” Following this research, we are looking for a motivated and experienced professional to join our team and offer victims of modern slavery and their children tailored and trauma-informed support.
Some other main responsibilities of the role include:
- Formulate, implement and review support plans and safety assessments with the participation of service users and external agencies, considering that support plans are age appropriate.
- Plan, organise and run tailored ‘Stay and Play’ sessions for children and mums.
- Work with caseworkers and social workers to follow any Child Protection plans and ensure that parents are aware of how to follow the plan.
- Help in setting healthy boundaries and encouraging risk-taking in a suitable and child
- friendly way and can support the mother in liaising with the school and other professionals, to ensure they understand and can accommodate the child’s needs.
**About you**
**Essential**:
- Demonstrable experience of supporting parents and children who have experienced exploitation or trauma.
- Demonstrable experience of supporting a good standard of written and spoken English.
- Ability to present to a wide range of audiences.
- Knowledge and understanding of child and adult safeguarding issues and ability to address them appropriately.
- Ability to work with varied community groups and services and multicultural communities.
- An understanding of the tasks required to maintain a safe living and working environment.
- An understanding of the risks associated with lone working.
- Working knowledge of statutory and voluntary services available for the client group and the issues involved in providing a co
- ordinated service for them.
- Working knowledge of welfare benefits and thecurrent legislation around recourse to public funds.
**Desirable**:
- A good understanding of modern slavery including the National Referral Mechanism and the Home Office.
- Qualifications in Children's Care, Learning and Development, Education, or something of a similar nature.
