Independent Gender Violence Advocate- Modern Slavery

Prospectus are pleased to be partnering with the UK's leading charity protecting women and children against domestic violence. Set up in 1971, they now help over 6,000 women and children every day, with their goal being to create a world where they can live safety. They are now recruiting for an Independent Gender Violence Advocate, across Ealing, Hounslow and Brent, London, Initially on a temporary basis for 6 months.
As an Independent Gender Violence Advocate, you will work closely with victims of gender-based violence, including domestic violence and modern slavery, from the point of crisis, to provide high quality independent advocacy and support survivors of gender-based violence and their children. You will help to increase the ability of partner agencies to recognise, reject and respond appropriately and safely to all forms of gender-based violence and will advocate, both verbally and in writing including in civil and criminal proceedings and with criminal justice professionals. You will establish the risks to and the needs of survivors, helping to develop and deliver individual support and risk management plans. You will work directly with all key agency partners to ensure that their plans are coordinated through the MARAC, and help to contribute to the design of interventions and plans which protect survivors and their children. Finally, you will recognise, respect and address the needs of service-users who face particular barriers when seeking help to access and ensure the safeguarding children or vulnerable adults.
To be considered, you will have the ability to speak Romanian, Lithuanian, Bulgarian or Hungarian. You will have previous experience of providing emotional and practical support to survivors of gender-based violence, in a non-judgemental, non-directive and confidential manner as well as knowledge of gender-based violence and its impact upon survivors and children. You will be able to identify and respond to the risks to and needs of survivors and understand multi-agency partnership structures, including the MARAC. You will be able to work effectively on own initiative, as well as part of a team, work well under pressure within a stressful environment and be able take a flexible and proactive approach, with good organisational and administrative skills. Finally, you will have a commitment to follow the philosophical principles of Refuge and be committed to empowerment, support and equality.
