In collaboration with the Directors and the academic, research or clinical teams and particularly the BABCP lead, to plan, co-ordinate and monitor the CBT training activity of the doctoral course and the CBT top up programme for supervisors to obtain BABCP accreditation. To contribute to the training, teaching and supervision as required.
To work closely with the Top up programme lead to ensure the smooth running of the clinical and academic work on that programme.
To ensure CBT competencies are delivered and assessed throughout the training of DClinPsy trainees.
For all trainees, coordinating and conducting supervision, case report marking and other activities contributing to BABCP accreditation.
If appropriate, to contribute clinical sessions to Oxford Health Specialist Psychological Intervention Centre (OHSPIC) in an identified area of specialization.
If appropriate, contribute to the work of the Oxford Cognitive Therapy Centre (OCTC).

Planning, organising and coordinating key aspects of the BABCP components of the DClinPsy and CBT supervisor top-up training.
- To plan, co-ordinate or monitor aspects of the CBT activity of the doctoral course and to carry primary responsibility for the planning, coordination and monitoring of agreed aspects of the activity of top up supervisors on our CBT programme. This involves the short-term as well as long-term strategic planning of the programme, including ensuring that the work carried out meets the BABCP requirements, coordinating both the internal and external contributors.
- To assist with enabling trainees to gain the relevant accreditation both as cognitive behavioural therapists (with the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy)
- To take work with other staff in organising, implementing, and reviewing academic and clinical aspects of the programme CBT modules. This to include teaching and supervision sessions as appropriate.
- To take responsibility for the planning, submission, and assessment of trainees’ submissions, including reading plans and drafts as necessary.
- To provide highly specialist advice to trainees and top up supervisors on suitable topics for course work. This will include supervision of the development of research proposals and projects and highly specialist advice on reports of clinical activity.
- To work with other staff on evaluating outcomes of the top-up CBT training programme for supervisors
- To provide doctoral clinical psychology trainees with highly specialist advice aspects of the programme requirements, particularly CBT.
- To liaise effectively with the Director, Clinical and Academic Directors, Senior Research Tutors, research supervisors, clinical placement supervisors, special interest groups, clinical tutors, academic lecturers, service users and carers, and the Institute administrative staff.
- To take the lead in or assist with developing a long-term strategy to adjust agreed aspects of the programme in relation to new developments in areas linked to the postholder’s expertise and programme requirements. This may include teaching specialist skills, drawing on advanced theoretical and practical knowledge in clinical and research areas.
- To carry responsibility for, or work under, supervision in the development of aspects of the programme for doctoral students and top-up supervisors on a term-by-term basis and for the ongoing implementation of changes to the programme based on the feedback by trainees and trainers.
- To work closely with OCTC in the delivery of the Top-Up programme.
- To attend Course meetings to be informed of and contribute to all programme process relevant to the clinical, academic and research development, and line management, of course tutees.
- To provide individual development, support, and input as appropriate to trainees. This may involve direct exposure to trainee’s emotional life and individual support for emotionally distressed trainees.
Teaching, Assessment and Supervision
- To draw on highly specialist skills from own clinical practice to ensure the content of all aspects of the programme is in line with cutting edge developments in research and academic and clinical practice and with requirements set out by the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy and other relevant bodies.
