This role sits in our Consular Services Department. We take responsibility for services that British people abroad can access directly. For example:

- digital services (such as our emergency travel document service, notarial and document services, assistance services, and registration service)
- consular content on GOV.UK (such as travel advice)

We want you to help us create the best possible services for our users.

You will create, and be an advocate for, high-quality content that meets Government Digital Service (GDS) standards, working in multidisciplinary teams to bring content design skills to our digital services.

You will work with digital colleagues, contractors, and colleagues across FCDO.

There may be opportunities for travel, like visiting our emergency travel document centre in Madrid.

Examples of projects FCDO content designers are currently working on include:

- improving FCDO’s foreign travel advice
- creating new guidance for British people who need help when they’re abroad

In this role, you will:

- work on new content and continuous improvement of live content
- take responsibility for content quality on projects
- mentor a junior content colleague and contribute to the growing FCDO content community of practice
- review the work of junior content designers and other colleagues
- take an active role in user research activities, for example writing and mapping user stories
- understand the different user-centred design disciplines, (eg service design and user research) and how content design fits into this

**Person specification**:
**Minimum Criteria**
- creating clear, simple, and accessible content for a range of formats and audiences
- identifying user needs and creating content to meet those needs
- advocating for content design across an organisation and training non-content designers to create better digital content
- working with colleagues, including senior stakeholders, to inform and persuade on the best content design approaches
- agile working in multidisciplinary teams (for example, with service designers, user researchers and product managers)
- monitoring the performance of content, for example through research or analytics, and identifying ways to improve the service
