**Overview**
The Activities Director plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for residents. This position involves planning, organising, and implementing engaging activities tailored to the interests and abilities of our residents, including those with mental health and dementia care needs. The Activities Director will work closely with staff, residents, and their families to create a vibrant community atmosphere that promotes social interaction, mental stimulation, and overall well-being.
The hours will be 10AM-12PM Monday - Friday.
**Responsibilities**
- Develop and implement a comprehensive activities programme that caters to the diverse needs of residents in the care home.
- Coordinate and facilitate group activities such as arts and crafts, games, exercise classes, and outings.
- Assess individual resident preferences and abilities to tailor activities accordingly.
- Collaborate with care staff to ensure activities are suitable for residents with specific care requirements, particularly those with dementia.
- Communicate effectively with residents to promote participation in activities.
- Maintain accurate records of participation and feedback to evaluate the effectiveness of the activities programme.
- Ensure all activities comply with health and safety regulations.

**Job description for activity coordinator**
We are looking to hire and enthusiastic and bubbly activity coordinator to join our team at Thornton Lodge Residential Home for people with mental health needs.
Our home is a long-standing business in the heart of Thornton Heath and is home to 43 residents. The majority of our residents greatly enjoy participating in activities such as colouring, paper crafts, movie nights, exercise and much more.
We are looking for a motivated person who can structure activities for our residents that boost their confidence, promote their independence and most of all, bring them happiness and fulfilment in participating in activities.
As the majority of our residents have capacity we are looking for someone who can build strong relationships with them and begin to bring activities which are suitable to their needs.
**Key objectives of the role**:
- Structure daily activities
- Offer a range of different and new activities
- Liaise with the manager on the residents interests
- Liaise with administrative team for any orders for activity supplies
- Be enthusiastic while dealing with the residents and encourage them to participate
- Build rapport with the residents, learn their interests and discuss what they would like to do so some activities could be planned around this.
- Hold regular exercise sessions
- Record keeping of activities
- Take photos of our residents for the photo wall/photo album
- Take part in planning trips outside of the home
- Plan movie nights
- Bring new ideas which would benefit our residents
**We offer mandatory training on site which includes**:

- Activity Planning
- Health and Safety
- Fire Safety
- Moving and Handling
**Who we are looking for**:
- Must have at least 2 years’ experience as an activity coordinator
- Must be available Monday to Friday for at least 2 hours a day
- Understanding of activities suitable for a range of ages, varying mobility and health conditions
- Preferably has activity coordinator training
- Motivated and able to work on planning activities effectively and with residents wellbeing in mind
- Patient and understanding
- Creative and willingness to learn
- Preferable training in exercises for older people and understanding of its importance
