Carousel Logistics is looking for a **Supervisor - Customs & Brokerage** to join our team.
- **Location**:Birmingham.
- **Hours**:40 hours, Full time.
- **Reports to**: Operations Manager - Customs & Brokerage
**About the Role**:
We ensure the time-critical movement of goods from our European gateways into the UK and onwards to Ireland for customers who depend on reliable, compliant delivery.
As Supervisor - Customs & Brokerage, you will lead a small operational team handling import/export clearances and transit procedures. You will support and advise customers on customs requirements, ensure seamless freight movement, and maintain compliance with HMRC and Border Force regulations.
This role is hands-on and operational, ideal for a proactive supervisor with customs**knowledge who thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Lead, coach and develop a customs team to deliver excellent service and meet operational KPIs.
- Oversee timely completion of import/export declarations, air waybills (AWBs), and manifests.
- Maintain self-audit controls and accuracy across customs entries (NCTS, CDS, ICS2 and other mandatory systems).
- Monitor and implement changes in customs processes/regulations (e.g., ELO, ICS2, UKFRC).
- Ensure appropriate shift cover, conduct return-to-work interviews, and support performance reviews.
- Manage shared inboxes and resolve customer/customs queries promptly and professionally.
- Liaise confidently with HMRC, carriers, and internal stakeholders to ensure freight is cleared on time.
- Identify and implement process improvements, automation opportunities and efficiency gains.
**What We Are Looking For**:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience building and leading a new team.
- 3-5 years’ supervisory experience in logistics, freight forwarding, or related operations.
- At least 2 years in import/export or customs-focused roles.
- Knowledge of HMRC & Border Force procedures, including NCTS and CDS.
- Track record of learning in-house systems and introducing process automation.
- Comfortable with variable working hours, including night operations (peak window 12:00-01:00) and some weekend cover (team operating hours 09:00-03:00, Mon-Sat).
- Excellent written and verbal communication; confident liaising with clients and authorities.
- Strong problem-solving, organisational and process-improvement skills.
