This role supports the Managing Director with the development of Financial Controls across the whole of the business in support of the organisation’s strategic plans. The postholder will be responsible for leading a team of Accountants.

**Job Purpose**:
The Head of Finance is responsible for leading the organisation's financial controls and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements. As the Head of Finance, you will play a critical role in establishing and maintaining robust financial control mechanisms to safeguard the organisation's assets and promote financial integrity. This includes designing and implementing effective financial policies, procedures, and controls that align with best practices and industry standards.

Furthermore, you will provide leadership and direction to the accountants and the wider Finance team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. Your expertise and guidance will be instrumental in ensuring the accurate and efficient execution of financial processes, such as budgeting, financial reporting, and analysis.

In addition to financial controls, you will demonstrate a deep understanding of the organisation and its strategic objectives. Regularly reporting on financial and other business performance measures, you will provide strategic financial advice and insights to the group Managing Director (MD). This includes presenting comprehensive financial statements, management reports, and key financial information to senior management, the board of directors, and external stakeholders as required.

Overall, the Head of Finance position is a strategic role that contributes to the organisation's financial health and long-term success by establishing strong financial controls, providing valuable insights, and supporting decision-making at the highest level.

**Job Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Ensuring adequate and appropriate financial controls, processes and procedures exist (and are audited) in accordance with the Controls Procedures
- Recommendation and adoption of enhancements/improvements of operational controls
- Creation of data and trend analysis leading to effective communication which will influence local management decision making.
- Ensuring appropriately skilled and trained accounts staff are in place to perform day-to-day financial and operational accounting functions
- Managing and preparation of management reporting including event forecasting, month-end close down, profit & loss statements, partial balance sheets, budgets, and forecasts
- Manage the weekly and monthly process of input into accounting ledgers through invoice and journal postings
- Co-ordinate, manage the preparation and interrogation of weekly and monthly profit & loss, KPIs for the unit accounts. Authorship of narratives
- To ensure the business is complying with all appropriate contractual obligations, and monitoring of contractual KPIs
- To ensure all IT operating systems are used to the best of their ability and to make any recommendations for suitable improvements
- Liaise closely with the General Manager and stakeholders within the business. Assist where possible in spirit of teamwork including Profit Protection
- Be fully involved in the interviewing, recruitment, training and development of the Account Team

**What qualities are important to us?**
- It is essential that you hold a professional finance qualification (CCAB CIMA/ACCA/ACA or equivalent)
- Demonstrable experience and strong track record of Financial Controls.
- Present recommendations and balanced conclusions, with supporting evidence, to senior stakeholders to support decision with impact and professional credibility.
- Highly effective communication and collaboration skills with a demonstrable ability of building and maintaining successful working relationships
- Demonstrates the ability to identify and engage a wide variety of stakeholders.
- The ability to take ownership of allocated assignments and effectively manage their own time, being able to prioritise and plan the work of the team, demonstrating good project management skills to deliver high quality work at pace.
- Ability to work successfully within and lead a team, with experience of setting realistic and motivating objectives, monitoring performance, giving feedback and supporting development.
