Baker

As the Baker you will be a part of the kitchen team under the instruction of the Kitchen Manager. Your role will be to lead the baking in the kitchen, creating delicious cakes, sweet treats, pastries and savoury bakes for the residents to enjoy. You will need to enjoy interacting and communicating with the elderly as you will have regular contact with our residents.

**ABOUT YOU**:

- 1 years experience in hospitality/catering is required
- Level 2 Food & Hygiene is required
- A Certificate in General Patisserie and Confectionery would be beneficial but is not a requirement
- A City & Guilds Catering qualification would be ideal but is not a requirement
- Passionate about food and baking
- Good level of English
- A good team player
- Excellent time management skills
- Honest and kind person who can work under pressure
- Previous experience in a care home is beneficial

**PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Accountable to: Kitchen Manager, Home Manager, Deputy Manager**

1. The planning, preparation, cooking and serving of food with due regard to the current food hygiene regulations and the provision of well balanced, nutritious and varied menus.

2. Liaising with kitchen team on the ordering of food and checking of items received. Dating of frozen or refrigerated stock. Ensure frozen/fresh ratio are adhered to when ordering.

3. Baking a selection of cakes, sweet treats, savoury bakes and pastries for the residents including cakes on special occasions and residents birthdays, as directed by the Kitchen Manager or Home management.

4. The issuing of stores and day to day stock control, ensuring correct stock rotation.

5. To ensure that bakes are varied, residents have choice and that bakes selections are in line with resident preferences and requirements. Feedback is taken from Relative surveys.

6. To ensure that soft options are provided for residents who have swallowing problems where possible.

7. To provide special diets as required in terms of intolerances and allergies and ensuring procedure is followed to avoid cross-contamination.

8. Responsibility for cleaning of all utensils and the preparation of meals, ensuring the kitchen is left tidy and clean at the end of each shift.

9. Complete any other tasks which may be reasonably asked of you.
