**A career without limits**
As the nation’s flag carrier, we take great pride in connecting Britain with the world and the world with Britain.
It’s something we’ve been doing for over 100 years, ever since we launched the world’s first international scheduled air service between London and Paris.
This originality has been in our blood since day one. It’s the spirit we share with the people that fly with us, our partners, and our colleagues.
So, whether you are a reassuring voice on the end of a phone, a smile at the door, under a wing keeping the turbines spinning or landing us gently in far-flung places, a job at British Airways is yours to make.
We know great things can happen when you’re inspired to think big and bring your ambition to work every day, which is why, at British Airways the sky is never the limit.
**The role**:
As we continue to renew our fleet, embrace new technologies, and evolve the way we work, we’re investing in our people, our systems, and our future. Our goal is to deliver world-class engineering excellence built on innovation, precision, and teamwork.
At London Heathrow, our Engineering and Maintenance teams are the heartbeat of our operation, maintaining and supporting one of the world’s most modern and diverse fleets. As Head of LHR Maintenance Process Excellence, you’ll play a key role in shaping how we operate, optimising performance, and encouraging a culture of continuous improvement that delivers safety, quality, and efficiency at every stage.
This is a unique opportunity to influence the future of British Airways Engineering, working alongside senior leaders to define and implement a best-in-class maintenance strategy. You’ll be leading change in one of the most complex engineering environments in the industry, inspiring others and driving innovation through data, collaboration, and process excellence.
**What You’ll Do**:
- Collaborate with senior leaders across Engineering & Maintenance to drive improvements that support fleet expansion, increase aircraft availability, and reduce maintenance costs.
- Lead the planning and preparation needed to ensure maintenance teams are fully supported with the right resources, tools, and facilities at the right time.
- Develop and deliver a smarter approach to maintenance through digital technologies, enhanced systems, and relevant data insights.
- Align processes across Engineering, Planning, Supply Chain, and Safety to ensure consistency, reliability, and seamless collaboration.
- Encourage the transformation of maintenance processes, designing and embedding next generation ways of working.
- Lead business wide change initiatives, supporting teams through transition and securing long lasting improvements.
- Oversee key investment decisions and workforce planning to ensure resources are used efficiently and deliver real value.
- Build a constructive and engaging environment where teams feel supported through change and confident in their contribution to success.
**What You’ll Bring to British Airways**:
- Strategic thinking, combined with a clear and practical approach to delivery.
- A strong focus on quality and performance, with high expectations for standards and results.
- Experience leading change in a fast paced, safety-critical, unionised environment.
- Excellent relationship building skills with the confidence to engage and influence at all levels.
- A calm, solutions-focused mindset, particularly in challenging or complex situations.
- A forward-thinking attitude, with a drive for continuous improvement and innovation.
**Your Experience**:
- Proven leadership of a large maintenance organisation or engineering function.
- Deep understanding of end-to-end maintenance processes and regulatory H&S frameworks.
- Experience delivering sustained change and process improvement within a complex, industrial unionised environment.
- Relevant technical qualification or an engineering degree.
**What we offer**:
We believe that all the people who work with us should feel valued for the part they play. It’s one of the reasons our rewards go far beyond a competitive salary.
From the day you join us, you’ll get access to brilliant staff travel benefits including unlimited basic and premium standby tickets on British Airways flights. You’ll also receive up to 30 discounted ‘Hotline’ airfares per year for yourself, friends, and family.
At British Airways you’ll have the chance to take on new challenges and move forward in a way that feels right for you. We encourage all those who work for us to consider opportunities right across our business to help you develop and progress.
We never stand still, and we don’t expect our people to either.
