The Gateway Operations Operator will be responsible in assisting the Gateway Team Leader in ensuring the smooth day to day running of the new and dynamic UK Export Gateway Operation based in LHR.

The Gateway will consolidate all airfreight shipments from our sites in Heathrow, Bradford, Manchester, Lutterworth, Cannock into a single location at Rhenus LHR, where all Airfreight handling formalities will be undertaken and tendered to the LHR airline sheds.

The Gateway will act to service the needs of UK Air Export business, providing an all-inclusive handling, screening and ULD Build up service. The aim is to replace the existing model where third-party hauliers are organising collections, freight receipt, screening, documentation tie up, cargo labelling and airline transfer.

The Gateway Operations Operator will hold an important role of being a liaison between branches and carriers always optimizing the Gateway function and sharing knowledge and support to the wider Rhenus Air & Ocean team. Ensuring that consolidation shipments are managed in the most cost-effective way to ensure maximum profitability for the job file.

Main duties: To include, but not limited to:

- Booking of consols and back-to-back shipments with approved airlines
- To provide spot pricing for ad-hoc shipments
- Resolution of CASS queries in a timely manner
- Liaising with Air & Ocean branches on the status of shipments
- Providing post-flight information in a timely manner
- Completion of all consols
- Liaising with the LHR Warehouse to ensure shipment readiness in line with transport and flight requirements
- Providing all relevant information and documentation to the LHR Warehouse team to ensure shipment tie-ups are accurately completed
- Updating Rhenus systems with security screening and any other file updates
- Maintaining AWB stocks within Rhenus systems
- Maintenance of all airline handling agents within Rhenus systems
- Pre-Alerting handling agent sheds and hauliers for airport deliveries
- Following all financial, operational and administrative functions.

Person Specification.

The Gateway Operations Operator must have the passion and drive to ensure that the UK Gateway operates to its fullest and is a benefit to the wider Rhenus Air & Ocean team and ultimately the Rhenus group.
- Strong background in an airfreight forwarding environment
- Previous experience in Gateway Operations desirable
- Flexible and adaptable approach
- Attention to detail, ability to understand processes, create and work to SOP’s
- Good written and oral understanding of the English language
- Ability to work under pressure

Skills and Experience
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an export airfreight environment.
- Ability to negotiate with airlines for best service / rates
- Involvement in carrier meetings
