The Role
**Main purpose of the residency**
To provide opportunity for an emerging professional to develop a strong participatory arts practice through a combination of delivery, reflective practice, mentoring, observation, and professional training across a wide range of projects.
**This will be achieved through**:
- Assisting with the delivery of a range of workshops across our programme, working with different ages, abilities, and backgrounds in different settings.
- Working alongside established theatre practitioners across our programme
- Practitioner training in association with Plymouth Dance and On Course Southwest including practical and legislative professional training e.g. child protection, risk assessments and first aid.
**Tasks and Responsibilities**:
- To assist with the delivery and support of weekly workshops across our programme.#
- To assist with the delivery of the Holiday programmes.
- To support the management of the Young Company inbox and register administration.
- To become a licenced chaperon to support during theatre visits for Young Company and other activity as needed
- To work with the Creative Communities team on performance opportunities for Young Company and other projects
- To lead tours of TRP and TR2 for schools’ groups etc
- To assist with the delivery of workshops for school pupils
- To contribute to the planning and achievement of the work of the Creative Communities team
This list of responsibilities is not exhaustive and may change as the strategic vision for the department and organisation evolves. Therefore, the post holder may be required to perform duties outside of this as operationally required, but within the reasonable scope of this role, at the request of the Head of Creative Communities.
Person Specification
**Essential**
- Graduated from a relevant Higher Education qualification (HND or Degree) or significant relevant experience
- Proven commitment to theatre, drama and working with young people and/or the community
- Strong communication skills, verbal and written, and ability to adapt communication style for a diverse range of stakeholders, i.e. parents, formal education settings, young people etc
- A strong interest in developing skills in facilitation and ongoing professional development in your chosen art form
- Ability to work individually and as part of a team
- Excellent time management skills
- Able to take responsibility for tasks and meet deadlines
- Good administration and organisational skills
- A professional approach
- Able to work evenings/weekends
**Desirable**
- Experience of arts engagement, i.e. youth theatre, community theatre, education setting etc
- Experience of creating resource materials to support learning
- Practical knowledge of IT and Office based systems
- First aid qualification
- DBS Membership
- Full drivers licence

**Terms and conditions**:
This is a part-time, temporary position with the Theatre Royal Plymouth 32 hours per week over 5 days for a fixed term period up to August 2026.
Due to the nature of the role evening and weekend work will be required.
