Overview
Purpose of the Job
- To teach, via the medium of Welsh and English, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including personal academic tutoring of students.
- To be a module/programme organiser where relevant.
- To supervise MSci, MSc and PhD projects where appropriate.
- To provide pastoral and academic support to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- To conduct administrative tasks as designated by the Head of School.
Main
**Responsibilities**:
Teaching duties will include:
- Plan, prepare and deliver Welsh-medium lectures, practical sessions and tutorials, responding effectively to a variety of student backgrounds, learning styles and class sizes. Specifically, you will contribute to undergraduate teaching with tutorial groups and class teaching, including marine or terrestrial fieldwork and laboratory practical activities.
- Supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate student projects will also be involved. We aim to introduce innovative teaching into interdisciplinary modules that may cover aspects of marine biology, marine ecology, marine zoology and biological oceanography - as well as any other teaching duties as specified by the Head of School.
- Motivate students to proactive engagement in learning and provide meaningful and constructive feedback on the quality of their work.
- Keep abreast of new professional, educational and related social, economic and technological developments.
- Supervision of research project students at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Act as personal tutor to a number of undergraduate and postgraduate students, providing advice, guidance and support.
- Contribute to the development of new programmes; potentially including new interdisciplinary degree programmes, involving Marine Biology.
- Maintain and develop Scholarly activities in line with University, College and School strategies.
Administrative duties will include:
- Participate in the student recruitment and induction procedures of the School
- Contribute to the School’s management and participate in the administration of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
- Contribute to the marketing of programmes by participating in School and College link activities and other marketing initiatives.
- Undertake other administrative duties and responsibilities as directed by the Head of School.

**Responsibilities**:

- Higher Education teaching qualification completed or near to completion.
- Experience/Knowledge_
Essential
- Capability to effectively teach a wide range of topics in marine science (including marine biology, marine ecology, marine zoology or biological oceanography).
- Evidence of good / innovative pedagogic practice or ideas.
Desirable
- Experience of working and teaching in Higher Education with evidence of successful student learning outcomes.
- Experience of supervising undergraduate and postgraduate projects.
- Experience of teaching practical marine biology in the laboratory and/or field (including small boat/ship-based work.).
- Experience of module development and delivery in Higher Education.
- Experience of contribution to the wider student experience e.g. recruitment/retention initiatives, employability/enterprise initiatives, and student welfare.

- Ability to perform all duties through the medium of both Welsh and English (fluency in Welsh is essential).
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and on own initiative.
