A Senior Environment Officer (SEO) is a unique job. With your experience, knowledge, leadership and enthusiasm Land & Water Teams in Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly (DCIS) can achieve more fantastic things, protecting and improving the environment and making our Area an even greater place.

You will support, assist and provide technical advice and leadership to our Environment Officers, Team Leaders, Environment Managers and customers to ensure that we allocate resources in line with risk, deliver priority workloads and support colleagues to develop their skills and experience.

Initially, you’ll provide inspirational leadership on all aspects of incident response and technical water quality matters such as bathing water and shellfishery quality and ensure that our management of environmental incidents is robust, in line with national priorities and guidelines and is fully integrated into our wider incident response work under the think big, act early principle.

You will regularly take responsibility for specific and high-profile areas of work, anticipate the issues and ensure decisions are made on sound technical grounds.

The team
There are three talented and experienced Land & Water Teams across DCIS. You will work closely with all these teams and others responsible for incident management, providing technical leadership and direction. As a recognised technical expert, you will also represent our Area on national working groups and initiate and lead water quality and incident response discussions with key stakeholders.

Experience/skills required
We are looking for someone with excellent communication and influencing skills. You will be a self-motivated and passionate technical leader whose enthusiasm and drive will be felt across all Land & Water teams and DCIS as a whole.

Experience of the Environment Agency’s role in regulation of the water industry and in providing advice and guidance to those who impact on the water environment is essential, along with experience of incident management.

You’ll have a track record of persuading and influencing colleagues and customers be confident in forming national networks and in bringing creativity and innovation to tackling challenges.

You will need to interpret complex technical guidance and to translate this into practical solutions for customers, colleagues and the environment, and be confident coaching and mentoring others to do the same.

The role will require participation in standby and out of hours rosters.
