The Talent Set are excited to be partnering with one of the UK’s top Childrens Charities to find their new Media Officer.
This role will be leading the media and press activity for their largest corporate partnership - a fantastic opportunity for someone to develop their skillset in this area whilst gaining exposure with commercial media and press.
The organisation offers a lovely flexible working environment, with remote home-working and an expectation of being in their London offices 1 day a quarter.
As Media Officer you will reach new and diverse target audiences to highlight the organisation’s work, support income generation, and influence media reporting/media narrative on children and young people. Working as part of the organisation’s national media team to deliver the national media strategy, promoting the work of the organisation, generating coverage of our policy recommendations, promoting our Fundraising, and positioning the charity as the expert voice on children and young people.
Key responsibilities:
- Identify and target new and diverse audiences to reach a range of communities, supporters and potential commissioners of services in the Health and Social care sectors.
- Working to the National Media Team Manager to identify and manage sensitive issues with reputational implications.
- Take lead responsibility for specific areas of media work/projects on key areas of the organisation’s delivery, policy, and fundraising work.
- Ensure the views and experiences of the children and young people the organisation supports are reflected in our media and communications work, including through the effective use of case studies.
- Develop innovative and creative media plans, which maximise positive media coverage
- Regularly report on and evaluate media coverage.
- Respond to journalist enquiries and requests quickly, accurately and professionally.
- Develop and maintain close working relationships with colleagues across the national media team, the media and communications managers for the regions and nations, the policy and research team and other colleagues as appropriate.
- Make effective use of our social media channels to promote our key messages.
- Participate in press office duty rota, acting as first port of call for media enquiries out-of-hours.
- Educated to a degree level or able to demonstrate equivalent professional expertise or equivalent professional qualification gained in a creative/advertising/media/ marketing discipline.
- Expertise in, and working knowledge of, media relations, including social media.
- In-depth knowledge and experience engaging with the UK national media, online news and information sources and proven success in achieving positive coverage in a range of relevant media.
- Experience of working and delivering successfully in a high profile, fast-paced media team, newsroom, press office or public relations function.
- Proven ability to handle sensitive, confidential issues.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Can demonstrate the importance of accuracy: quality control and excellent service for internal and external audiences.
