Consultancy

**Overview**
The Participation for Humanitarian Innovation (PfHI) resource was commissioned in response to an organisation wide strategic objective to enable more meaningful engagement of people affected by crises through Elrha’s work. The resource has been designed to mirror the structure of the Ethics for Humanitarian Innovation (EfHI) resource which is composed of a series of case studies, a background paper and a toolkit containing five tools. Presently the PfHI, which was co-created with MIT’s D-Lab in 2021, comprises a background paper and a toolkit with content from a number of authors. As such, this Request for Proposals (RfP) seeks to identify an editor or technical writer to bring a consistent voice to each component of the resource and ensure that the writing is both clear and in keeping with the Elrha style.
**Purpose**
The development of the PfHI toolkit from a working prototype into a publishable PDF resource is part of a continuing commitment to accessible and practical resources of the standard set by the Ethics for Humanitarian Innovation resource, released in 2021. The purpose of the work outlined in this RfP is to ensure the content of the toolkit and two background papers are internally consistent and in the style of Elrha’s other flagship resources.
**Objectives**
Working in consultation with the HIF’s ‘Innovation Skills and Capabilities’ team, the selected editor/technical writer will proofread the Participation for Humanitarian Innovation toolkit and two background papers totalling ~35,000 words. They will ensure that the copy conforms to Elrha’s style guide—informed by EfHI and the forthcoming successor to the Humantrain Innovation Guide (HIG)—while also improving the reliability/understandability of the tools’ step-by-step instructions.
**Deliverables**
The editor is expected to deliver the following:

- **A revised project plan and brief**, based on proposal and kick-off meeting
- **Proofed toolkit and papers (2x)**, in compliance with Elrha’s brand guidelines and in the style of the EfHI resource and HIG. Toolkit copy to be delivered in a Figma template (access and necessary basic training provided), while the papers can be delivered as agreed (suggest.docx with tracked changes)
- **Documentation** of new stylistic choices in the HIF resource styleguide

**Qualifications and Experience**
It is anticipated that this consultancy is best suited to a single person and that the work will be carried out remotely. Applicants should demonstrate the following qualifications and experience:
**Essential**:

- Extensive writing and editorial experience
- Extensive experience analysing and making sense of complex information
- Experience contributing to or developing styles guides

**Desirable**:

- Experience developing content for design toolkits
- Understanding of participatory practices
- Understanding of innovation methodologies
- Understanding of humanitarian sector

**Structure of Financial Offer**
Your budget should be itemised to reflect the activities required to deliver the project outlined in this Request for Proposals.
The final offer should not exceed **£5,000**, exclusive of applicable UK VAT but inclusive of any taxes that overseas suppliers may be liable for outside the UK.
Please indicate if you/your company is VAT registered and where. Please note that payment is in arrears and linked to the satisfactory completion of deliverables by the dates specified in the ‘Timeline’ section.
**Proposal Submission**
**Requirements**:
Proposals should be submitted as a PDF document in clear and concise English. Please ensure your proposal includes the following:

- a summary that demonstrates your suitability to this project and relevant experience based on the information given in this Request for Proposals (maximum three pages)
- CV based on the information given in ‘Qualifications and Experience Required’.
- a process outline that demonstrates your approach to the project including your ability to address activities and deliverables within the time allocated
