A vacancy has arisen for a Communications and Engagement Officer in the Office of the Cambridgeshire Police and Crime Commissioner.

You must have outstanding written and verbal communication skills and be able to explain to the public how the Police and Crime Commissioner helps cut crime and support victims through his Police and Crime Plan.

Police and Crime Commissioners are elected to represent the people and ensure an effective and efficient police service. In Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Darryl Preston is responsible for setting police and crime objectives, the police budget and for holding the Chief Constable to account.

Your role will be to raise awareness of his work through a range of traditional and digital media and communication channels. You will be responsible for organising and supporting engagement opportunities with local stakeholders and residents and for ensuring their views are responded to.

An average day could include:

- Handling media enquiries
- Writing press releases, statements, website content and social media content
- Working in partnership on multi-agency campaigns
- Responding to members of the public
- Organising public and/or stakeholder events

You will need at least three years’ experience in a busy communications or press office environment and be able to take the initiative to run your own communication campaigns.

You must have excellent presentation and interpersonal skills, be a confident and adaptable writer, with current working knowledge of effective social media and efficient administration skills.

You will be part of a small, but supportive team, who are splitting their time between home and the Office of Police and Crime Commissioner based in Police Headquarters in Huntingdon. You must be able to travel to the office, and around the county and elsewhere, for meetings to meet business need.
