**Woodland Creation Officer - **As well as direct impact with teams on the ground, this role will grow knowledge and expertise in existing Countryside Teams and will be vital to an ensure we take an integrated approach to achieve our woodland creation ambitions across the Lake District woodlands in the Lake District.

As part of our Resilient Landscapes approach the Trust has developed the **Lakes Treescapes Project **and secured funding initially for 3 years to implement a number of roles (including the Woodland Creation Officer) that will supplement our existing Trees & Woodlands expertise and provide a targeted boost of resources working alongside our Countryside Teams, Estate Managers and our Head Forester to ensure that we make the most of the opportunities and economies of scale within this complex landscape.

Our approach to tree establishment ensures we maximise the benefit for people and nature, as well as locking up carbon. We'll establish new hedgerows and woodlands as well as creating innovative agroforestry projects and restoring historic wood pasture and orchards - and increasing tree cover in other settings.

What it's like to work here:The purpose of this role is to provide support and expertise to the Countryside teams in delivering this ambition and be the front-line role to promote, advise on and facilitate woodland creation initiatives. The role is essential in upskilling teams and providing counsel and guidance to our external partners. This role will operate as the expert within the region where requirements for woodland creation exceeds the skills and experience of portfolio ranger teams. The role will promote, advise on and help to facilitate a diverse range of woodland creation proposals.

**What you'll be doing:Success in this role will be
**Year 1**
- Working with our regional Trees & Woodlands Adviser, national specialists and our local countryside teams to develop the strategy and vision for trees and woodland creation in the Lakes, particularly tree planting and woodland creation as part of emerging nature priority work.

**Year 2 & 3**

Continue to work with properties to develop and initiate plans for tree planting and woodland creation, delivering the agreed NT nature priority work
- Tree planting operations on some woodland creation projects should start to happen at scale. The Woodland Creation officer will take a leading role in delivering this work
- Implement suitable identified funding opportunities / bids

**Year 3 onward**
- **Our ambition is that this work will continue on an externally ‘self-funded’ basis beyond the initial project period however we will need to review this in Year 2**

**Who we're looking forYou will need the skills and experience to**:

- Advise on funding options: grants, carbon funding, nitrate offsetting and sponsorship.
- Bring forward strong woodland creation funding bids at scale for NT in the Lakes
- Commission woodland creation work
- Liaise with relevant stakeholders including associated NT projects & workstreams, non-government and government organisations
- Communicate and share lessons learned / good practice on woodland creation proposals
- Play a key leadership role developing an NT Lakes-wide Woodland creation ambition that articulates ‘what does good look like’ in the cultural World Heritage Site
