Summary This is an exciting opportunity for a talented Project Manager who isn’t afraid of a challenge. Employed by the National Trust and working with partners on a landscape-scale strategy to make the Bollin Valley and it’s catchment a really special place. Itsgood now - you’re going to make it amazing. You’ll be co-ordinating stakeholders and driving the creation of a strategy, underpinned by a series of investible projects that you’ll be identifying. These projects will deliver a sustainable future within thiscatchment. There’s support from our Programme and Project Management Office and community and you’ll be drawing in expertise from many disciplines to help. This goes beyond National Trust boundaries, taking a holistic view of the landscape and the communitiesthat live in it and use it. If you can see how water, communities, biodiversity, carbon, transport and health can all come together in the Bollin Valley you should keep reading.
What it's like to work here The National Trust Consultancy is the home to specialists in every field of our work. A national consultancy, where resources are shared across disciplines and boundaries, it’s proving to be a great repository of skills, talent, and experience. The diversityand quality of expertise within the Consultancy will enable our properties and places to benefit from an extraordinary range of creative and innovative thinking, as well as deep expertise in all matters relating to our twin purpose of caring for the nation’sheritage and landscapes and making these accessible to all. There is lots of support in place with a vibrant Project Management community, well established Programme and Project Management Office (PPMO) and CPD opportunities.
What you'll be doing This newly created two-year role will turn the Bollin Valley from a great place now into an amazing place in the future. It’s funded by the National Trust, and you will be working closely with partners (both existing and new) to create a long-term strategyfor landscape scale projects that will deliver benefits for the environment and for communities. You’ll be focussing on the strategic aims of not only the National Trust but also our partner organisations, finding the synergies that will create projects withstrong foundations and funding potential. Our current partners include Cheshire East Council, the Environment Agency, Natural England, Cheshire Wildlife Trust, Mersey Forest, Mersey Rivers Trust, United Utilities, the Local Nature Partnership and Tatton Estates.
Future projects could range across engaging with communities, water quality, flooding, habitats and biodiversity, carbon sequestration, sustainable transport, health and well-being - nothing is off-limits if it fits with the strategic aims.
There is already lots of activity taking place along the River Bollin, with the National Trust (via its Riverlands Project) and other partners working in different places for different outcomes. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the creation of a long-termstrategy that will turn the Bollin Valley and its North Cheshire Catchment into an amazing resource for local communities and a brilliant example of multi-partner landscape-scale working. There is significant National Trust landholding in the area, but thisrole will be working across a wide range of land ownership.
By the end of two years you will have an agreed overarching Bollin strategy with potential future projects that will deliver the strategy. These projects will have had enough scrutiny to give confidence that they could be funded and are deliverable by theBollin partners.
You’ll also be keeping an eye on other green and blue activity around the National Trust Cheshire properties and co-ordinating resources, working closely with the local teams at Dunham Massey, Quarry Bank, Alderley Edge, Hare Hill and Lyme Park.
Who we're looking for This role has a bold and broad remit. You’ll be a project manager who is experienced in creating lasting partnerships between organisations, landowners, farmers, and communities and can juggle the needs of many stakeholders. You’ll haveexperience of the wide range of areas the Bollin strategy seeks to cover to be able to hit the ground running, especially around communities, water quality, flooding, habitats and biodiversity, carbon sequestration, sustainable transport, health and well-being.Although there is plenty of support from specialists, you’ll be creative enough to bring together many voices to inform the strategy.
Your ability to communicate well will be a particular strength. From translating technical data into understandable information, to hearing, understanding and analysing the views of others, you’ll be able to help everyone understand what’s happening.
You’ll be resilient and tenacious to turn ideas into strategy and gain support from stakeholders, and clear eyed enough to know when something is unlikely to be successful. You’ll have experience of working through high level feasibility and testing potentialfunding sources.
Overall you’ll love the challenge of taking a holistic view of a landscape, and relish the opportunity to create lasting partnerships that will benefit everyone.
The package The National Trust has the motto ‘For everyone, for ever’ at its heart. We’re working hard to create an inclusive culture, where everyone feels they belong. It’s important that our people reflect and represent the diversity of the communities and audienceswe serve. We welcome and value difference, so when we say we’re for everyone, we want everyone to be welcome in our teams too.
