**Location**: The Leveson Centre, York Community Stadium, Kathryn Avenue, Huntington, York, YO32 9AF
**Hours of Work**: Full time, 35 hours per week. 32 hours will normally be worked over 4 days, with a flexible day off each week. The additional 3 hours will be worked across the year by assisting with charity events outside the normal working week. The Centre is open six days a week:

**Job Summary**
Are you organised, adaptable, and passionate about supporting people affected by cancer? Do you have excellent communication skills and the confidence to support others in sensitive situations?
The Leveson Centre is York Against Cancer’s dedicated cancer support centre, offering a warm, welcoming, “home-from-home” environment for cancer patients, their families, and friends.
Named after Steve Leveson, one of the Charity’s founders, the Centre provides a wide range of holistic support services, including:
- Weekly coffee mornings and a well-being choir
- Complementary therapies
- Pilates and yoga classes
- Advice on benefits and welfare from Citizens Advice
- Specialist psychological support for young people affected by cancer
The Centre plays a vital role in our community — creating a safe, supportive space away from a clinical setting, where people can connect, take part in wellbeing activities, and access the practical and emotional help they need.
**The Role**
We are seeking a motivated, compassionate, and highly organised individual to join us as Leveson Centre Assistant.
In this role, you will work closely with the Centre Managers to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the Centre. You’ll be a key point of contact for service users, offering empathetic support and signposting to services, while also coordinating and inspiring our volunteers.
You’ll also provide accurate and efficient administration support, help with events and activities, and promote the Centre as part of York Against Cancer’s wider community work. After a full induction, you will be confident managing the Centre independently when required.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of people affected by cancer and to be part of a supportive, purpose-driven team.
**Main Responsibilities**
- Support the Centre Managers in overseeing the day-to-day operation of the Centre, ensuring high standards at all times.
- Help create a welcoming, non-judgmental, and person-centred atmosphere for all visitors.
- Provide compassionate emotional and practical support to service users, using active listening skills.
- Support the continuation of existing services and contribute to the development of new ones.
- Ensure the Centre is tidy, safe, and fit for purpose each day.
- Act as key holder, with responsibility for opening and closing the Centre.
- Inspire, support, and coordinate the volunteer team, helping them understand their vital contribution to the charity’s wider aims.
- Proactively promote the Centre and York Against Cancer at community and fundraising events.
- Support the Marketing Team with promotional activities and materials.
- Work flexibly across the Centre’s operating hours (Monday-Saturday), occasionally outside of normal hours to support events.
- Adhere to GDPR, NHS data protection, health & safety, and charity policies at all times.
- Take responsibility for your own learning and development, identifying and acting on training needs.
**What we are looking for**
We are seeking a motivated and confident individual who is:
- Organised, reliable, and adaptable.
- Skilled in IT and administration, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- An excellent communicator with strong listening skills.
- Able to use own initiative, manage priorities, and work independently.
- Flexible and comfortable adapting to changing needs.
- Confident supporting people with emotional and practical needs.
- Proactive about learning and development.
- A team player who enjoys working collaboratively in a small team environment.
**Desirable**: Knowledge of cancer services and clinical pathways; experience working with people with complex needs; understanding of the voluntary and community sector.
**How to Apply**
**Closing date: 9th November 2025**
Pay: £25,000.00 per year
**Benefits**:
- Company pension
- On-site parking
- Private medical insurance
- Sick pay
Work Location: In person
Application deadline: 09/11/2025
