Plant Advisor

**Position: Plant Advisor / Outdoor Sales Assistant, York**

**Our Garden Centre is a family run business, serving local gardeners for over 50 years, with our York store opening in 1968 and our Scarborough store opening in 1986. We are proud of being a local family firm with strong roots in the local community.**

**Hours of work**

Monday - Saturday
October to February - 9.00am - 5.30pm
March to September - 9.00am - 6.00pm

Sunday
9.00am / 10.00am - 4.30pm / 4.45pm (depending on the time of year)

As the Garden Centre opens late on a Tuesday, the working hours on some Tuesdays will be 11am - 7.30pm

You will be required to work half of the Bank Holidays we are open

**About the Role ?**
- First and foremost, you will be part of a supportive, hardworking team.
- Liaise with the Outdoor Manager and Supervisor.
- Assist in the day-to-day operations of the outdoor sales area.
- Provide a friendly and efficient service to all our customers.
- Advise customers and answer their questions on all outdoor plants.
- Deal with customer queries over the phone.
- Complete customer orders.
- Receive, check off and price plant deliveries.
- Replenish and merchandise stock.
- Record, monitor and control all wastage.
- Ensure all Point of Sale is present and correct.
- Use linked sales in displays, to maximise sales.
- Water, feed and weed plants as necessary.
- Deadhead, prune and provide other maintenance within the plant areas.
- Assist with lifting heavy/bulky items and assist customers with carrying purchases to their cars.
- Carry out cleaning and housekeeping tasks as needed.
- Collect trolleys and shopping baskets.
- You may also be required to work at our Nursery.

**About You**
- Have a passion for working with plants.
- Have very good knowledge of all outdoor plants.
- Be able to identify pest and diseases on plants.
- Be able to work as part of a team and use your own initiative.
- Use equipment in a safe, effective and appropriate manner.
- Have a passion for delivering excellent customer service with a smile.
- Have a willingness to learn.
- Be able to work quickly, efficiently and under pressure, in a fast-paced environment.
- Be reliable and be flexible with working hours and duties.
- Like working outside in all weathers.
- Be physically fit as heavy lifting is required and you will be on your feet all day.
- Follow company policies and procedures.
- Have retail experience and be confident in sharing your knowledge.
- Be aware of Health and Safety matters and keep up to date with legislation and be prepared to undertake training that may be necessary due to new legislation.
- Have a right first-time approach and can-do attitude.
- Professional and reliable.
- Good time management.
- Highly motivated and enthusiastic with a drive to succeed.
- Be able to follow instructions.
- Take responsibility for own Health & Safety and for colleagues.
- Attention to detail and good organisational skills.
- Willing to share product knowledge with your colleagues.

**It would be useful to also**
- Have aquatic/pond knowledge.
- Hold a clean driving licence.
- Have a forklift truck certificate.
- Hold a spraying licence.
