**Job summary**:
His Majesty's Naval Base Clyde (HMNB Clyde) is home to the United Kingdom's Strategic Nuclear Deterrent, Astute Class Submarines, Sandown Class Mine Hunter Vessels and 43 Commando Royal Marines. It is an operational support and maintenance Naval Base within Navy Command and comprises both Faslane and Coulport Sites.
HMNB Clyde's primary purpose is to provide engineering and logístical support to the Royal Navy in maintaining Continuous at Sea Deterrent (CASD). This is achieved by ensuring at least one Vanguard Class submarine is on patrol at sea every day of the year.
HMNB Clyde is the single operational home of the Submarine Service and the United Kingdom's Submarine Centre of Excellence. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the Royal Navy's operational commitments across all Defence Lines of Development from Scotland on enduring basis. Based with HMNB Clyde, Fleet Operational Sea Training Submarines (FOST SM) is charged with the management and delivery of submarine training.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
**Job description**:
The role of the FOST SM First Aid Instructor (FOST SM FAI) is primarily to manage and deliver First Aid Level 2 and 3 training. It is expected that the individual will manage all bookings online, ensure delivery against Fleet and Civilian policy, grade performance of individuals, and record and report these results externally. Experience of working with submarines would be beneficial and a drive for continuous improvement is considered a desired behaviour.
- Teach the practical and theoretical aspects of the Royal Navy Level 2 & 3 First Aid course to the standard as set by the institute of Naval Medicine (INM).
- To act as the point of contact for all First Aid Training within HMNB Clyde, potentially including mentorship of newly qualified instructors.
- To be part of the 6 monthly Royal Navy First Aid Training Unit Working Group, passing identified issues to improve the quality/delivery of training.
- Authorised to liaise with agencies external to HMNB Clyde regarding the delivery of first aid training, the planning of courses and the booking of attendees.
- Basic recording of course nominals and related course documentation, reporting/sending paperwork to the Head of Training at INM and retention for a period of 2 years.
**Person specification**:
The post holder will have the exciting opportunity to join the Fleet Operational Sea Training organisation. As part of Transformation, the Royal Navy (RN) is modernising its individual and collective training. As such there will be much activity in the short-term including the generating of the Future Submarine School, with new training facilities for the next class of submarine coming into service.
The individual will be responsible for the generation, delivery and continuous improvement of a First Aid training package. They will be responsible for managing routine qualifications and surges in demand in support of the crews and supporting teams of operational submarines therefore it would be advantageous to be proactive and self-motivated.
Continuous self-development and improvement of training output is an implied task as medical and MoD policies are updated, taking onboard the success rate of trainees on the course, their feedback and that of external auditors.
The individual will contribute to the holistic development of all first aid qualified personnel on HMNB Clyde and ensure qualification status is correctly recorded and administered.
