Specialist Midwife for Smoking Cessation

The lead midwife for Smoking Cessation will provide evidence-based information and education for women and their families, and health professionals in line with Stockport NHS foundation Trust policies, the NMC Midwives Rules and standards, and the NMC Code and public health guidance.

This is a key role in maintaining high standards of care for women and their families with Tobacco Addiction (smoking) in pregnancy and the postnatal period. The focus is to improve outcomes of women with the single biggest modifiable risk factors for pregnancy.

The post holder will work in partnership with service users, and the multidisciplinary team, and local stakeholders to improve, protect health and wellbeing. The post holder will be responsible for supporting the implementation of processes to secure a year-on-year increase in engagement of smokers within the specialist smoking cessation team.

The post holder will provide links between the Maternity service and other services involved in smoking cessation, including Stockport's Tobacco Alliance, CCG, Public Health, GMAC-smoke free pregnancy programme, ABL (A Better Life) smoking cessation service in Stockport, and High Peak midwifery team.
