Quarry Shift Operator

**Department Overview**:
Following the pre-approved planning, and utilising the current available equipment, ensure the safe extraction of the mineral from the quarry face including the blasting and excavation processes. Follow on by conveying the mineral through the process plants, segregating the stone to the required specifications to supply the Lime production plants to meet business needs. Manage the by-products of the process in order to minimise the mining waste.

**Job Purpose Overview**:
We are looking for a quarry shift operator to join our team.

The quarry shift operator will have a full understanding of the quarry process plants. They will have, or, be working towards improving their competence levels on mobile plant and the relevant equipment to achieve their role efficiently. They will be the eyes and ears for the fixed plant, reacting to plant changes, communicating all potential issues within the plant to the duty supervisor and the central control room operators. They will ensure that all production and quality requirements are met, and the highest possible levels of safety and environmental standards are achieved, complying with the Quarries Regulation 1999.

They will ensure that the housekeeping of fixed plant and mobile plant are kept to a high standard.

The quarry shift operators maintain equipment, report mechanical and process issues in the first instance to reduce down time and improve the daily running of the system.

**Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities**:

- To ensure safe and efficient operation of all fixed plants with the use of the Agility maintenance schedule. Ensuring all issues are communicated through the shift supervisors and quarry lead fitter. Any issues will be documented on the Agility system.
- To ensure safe and efficient operation of the stone blending and optical sorting plants by the utilisation of the computerised control/stock control systems including the use of a dump truck to empty various silos around the site and distribute product to various designated locations.
- To ensure that all stone provided to the kilns is optically sorted and that the kiln operators are informed, in close communication of the grade and bed of stone provided each day.
- To provide cover on the product loading shovel as and when necessary, throughout the day.
- To ensure safe and efficient operation of the product loading shovel to load haulier’s vehicles with various products from stockpiles and storage sheds to also provide stock feed to the stone blending plant quarry fines mills.
- To provide cover for all plant operatives as and when necessary, throughout the day where training has been provided.
- To operate the quarry fines plant to mill excesses of stone as efficiently as possible in accordance with the quarry supervisors’ instructions.
- To assist with the operation of the 180-degree backactor to keep the site tidy.
- To utilise the Bobcat and or other mobile plant as required.
- To operate at all times to relevant procedures, work instructions, health and safety requirements and environmental requirements, offering solutions for waste reduction and energy saving where possible.
- Maintain a high standard of housekeeping at all times on whatever plant, fixed or mobile, being operated at any time.
- Carry out safety checks daily on whatever plant, fixed or mobile being operated at any time, complete the relevant daily checklists for that plant and inform the relevant personnel of defects/breakdowns as and when they occur.
- Carry out maintenance and repair tasks where possible, ensuring all procedures are followed to conduct the task.
- Work with the quarry supervisors and quarry maintenance lead to plan minor maintenance remedial works non-routine cleaning to coincide with planned down time.
- Maintain all records and documentation associated with the process plants.
