**Detailed job description and main responsibilities**:
**Strategic, Governance and Oversight of EDI**
- Input into the development of the Trust’s overarching EDI strategy, as well as the Workforce Strategy and lead on implementation within EDI areas of responsibility.
- Provide expert EDI input to the development of UCLH key patient and workforce strategies/plans
- Lead on the development and implementation of specific EDI Trust-wide policies, initiatives and schemes, as agreed with the Director of Workforce/Head of Staff Experience.
- Monitor external developments and develop and implement EDI initiatives and projects, that support the delivery of UCLH strategic and operational objectives.
- Oversight and lead of the effective running of the Trust’s EDI Steering Group, which is chaired by the Director of Workforce.
**Subject Matter Expert on EDI**
- Provide guidance to the Director of Workforce, Senior Heads of Workforce, Corporate Directors and on EDI issues, risks and developments
- Lead on the creation of local EDI procedures, protocols and guidance where necessary, ensuring consistency and shared learning across the Trust.
- Oversight of EDI and related training and development to ensure good practice and maximum impact
- Advise on Workforce initiatives including Staff Experience, and Wellbeing, Recruitment, to ensure compliant with good practice/legislation
- Monitor and provide expert advice on the effective Equality Impact Assessment (EIA) processes within UCLH.
- Ensure the workforce elements of business cases are in line with EDI legislation and good practice
- Utilise fully past, current and future data related to workforce (with support of workforce information) in relation to EDI, to include specific EDI initiatives - WRES/WDES, and data from the Annual and quarterly staff surveys to track and monitor UCLH’s effectiveness with its work on EDI.
- Update myuclh and UCLH intranet/internet with key EDI resources and information
**Management**
- Supervise and support and develop the Band 7 EDI Project manager, working closely with the Recruitment Team.
- Seek feedback and coaching to continually learn and develop as a professional.
- Deputise for the Head of Staff Experience, or Director of Workforce for EDI related matters, if required.
- Sharing and seeking knowledge and experiences within the Workforce teams to ensure EDI best practice.

**Knowledge and Qualifications**:
**Essential criteria**:
- Educated to degree level
- Masters Level or equivalent knowledge acquired by experience
- CIPD qualified or equivalent/related Equality Diversity & Inclusion qualification E
- Evidence of continuing professional development including regular attendance on internal and external study programmes
- In depth knowledge of current thinking and policy affecting the workforce in the health and public
**Desirable criteria**:
- HR knowledge acquired through formal training or equivalent experience
**Skills / Abilities**:
**Essential criteria**:
- Proven track record of operational and strategic EDI or related achievement at a senior level, working across a broad remit including OD
- Sound, up to date knowledge of EDI best practice, employment law, current thinking and developments in EDI
- Experience of leadership of complex change management
- Quality focussed with an innovative, flexible approach and the ability to solve complex problems.
- Experience of being able to balance competing priorities and meet personal and Trust targets within a fluctuating and demanding workload
- Demonstrated attention to detail and risk management expertise
- Experience of implementing new policies and new ways of working across a service
- Ability to design and deliver training
- Advanced analytical and judgement skills which require management of complex facts and problems
- Sound IT skills (Microsoft Office, Word), experience of manipulating HR databases
- Ability to respond to urgent situations in a calm, empathetic and logical manager and manage stressful situations
- Ability to think and plan strategically, tactically and creatively and to prioritise work programmes in the face of competing demands

- Proven NHS/public sector experience and knowledge

- Ability to manage highly complex and difficult situations where there is often direct conflict
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, demonstrating an ability to build relations and influence at a senior level and with external stakeholders
- Highly developed communication skills, ranging from informal 1:1 discussions, formal presentations, and written reports including data analysis covering both oral and written skills
- Strong strategic influencing, persuading and negotiating skills
- Mediation and/or facilitation skills and the ability to gain mutually acceptable outcomes
- Demonstrable ability to coach and train others, and model these behaviours to senior managers
