**About the job**

As the Head of Finance, you will be reporting to the CEO and work in collaboration with the CEO and the board of trustees/directors to formulate and deliver innovative strategies that grow profitability. You will have full responsibility for developing and managing all operational elements of financial planning, processes, management and reporting. You will work with the CEO to drive the business strategy whilst maintaining the senior leadership team's focus on core KPIs and business performance.

**Role Accountabilities**
- Strategy and Leadership_
- With the CEO and Senior Leadership Team (SLT), develop the business model and financial plan to ensure that the organisation remains sustainable into the future and delivers on its vision, mission and values.
- Lead and mentor a small team, fostering a culture of high performance, collaboration, and continuous learning. Maintain awareness of risks and changes in the external environment that affect the organisation and plan and implement changes to mitigate these.
- Perform project management of process changes and implementations.
- Financial and Legal_
- Accountability for the sound financial management of Tyneside Cinema, ensuring that expenditure is effectively controlled and made within available resources and that risk is managed.
- Support the CEO in the ongoing development of the Cinema and the Trading Company, including oversight of key projects and lead on the financial and commercial analysis of business opportunities.
- Work with the CEO to develop operating and capital budgets, ensuring departmental targets and outcomes are accurately set and monitored to ensure artistic, charitable and budgetary objectives are met.
- Responsible for the preparation and effective communication of monthly management accounts for both the Tyneside Cinema and the Trading Company to ensure the leadership team are equipped to understand performance and make decisions.
- Responsible for the preparation of annual accounts and tax returns.
- Handle VAT, PAYE and tax duties including corporation tax.
- Contribute to quarterly and annual reporting for external funders.
- Management of the in-house payroll function.
- Responsibility for compliance with all legal obligations and statutory requirements, including Companies Act, charity law, insurance, employment law, data protection, etc.
- Liaise with the auditors and prepare audit packs.
- Strategic Relations and Representation_
- Represent and promote Tyneside Cinema’s presence, identity, vision and interests as a champion and advocate for the company to the general public.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of strong and productive relationships with existing and potential partners/stakeholders including funders, auditors and banks.
- Develop relationships with key people and organisations locally and nationally who will further Tyneside Cinema’s interests and success.
- People_
- Work with the CEO and Head of People to determine operational staffing structures that are financially aligned to deliver the cinema’s artistic and operational objectives.
- Support with financial allocation for staff training and Continuous Professional Development of the Team.

**Person Specification**
- Experience_
- Experience of working in the hospitality and/or events management sectors would be advantageous.
- A demonstrable affiliation with the vision, mission and values of Tyneside Cinema, with a strong sense of social purpose and the desire to make an impact.
- Proven successful leadership in a senior strategic finance role in the charity sector, in an organisation of comparable scale to Tyneside Cinema.
- Effective leadership of a small team.
- A track record of growing sustainable revenue streams from multiple sources and developing innovative approaches to generating revenues in new ways.
- Leading annual and operating budgeting activities, and running appropriate monitoring and control mechanisms.
- Experience in stakeholder management and working collaboratively in a senior management team and with an ambitious board.
- Skills and Approach_
- A qualified accountant who is commercially astute with demonstrable commercial and business experience.
- The ability to interpret and analyse financial/other data to create action.
- Empathetic and collaborative, with proven ability to work effectively with operational and creative teams.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate, inspire, motivate and manage a team and win the confidence and respect of colleagues and external contacts.
- A strategic thinker.
- Knowledge/Qualifications_
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified or equivalent.
- Knowledge of charity accounting would be advantageous.
- Good knowledge of statutory requirements, including Companies Act, charity law, insurance, employment law, data protection, etc.
- Knowledge and experience of culture funding systems.
