Liverpool, United Kingdom Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust Full time

The North West Genomic Laboratory Hub (NWGLH) has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team as an Apprentice Assistant Genetic Technologist. Please note that this post will be based at the Liverpool site of the NWGLH (Liverpool Women’s Hospital). The NWGLH is a high regarded, UKAS accredited NHS clinical service provider of genomics to a population of 7.2 million people in the northwest of England, as well as a wide range of national and international specialist referrals.
This is an excellent opportunity for anyone wishing to work in an advanced laboratory environment and be part of a team delivering specialist genomics diagnostic services. As an apprentice you will be working towards achieving the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to fulfil the role of an Assistant Genetic Technologist. This level 4 apprenticeship will last approximately 24 months and will provide opportunity to get hands on laboratory work experience, whilst studying for a Level 4 Diploma in Healthcare Science. This role provides a foundation on which you can progress into and pursue a successful career within diagnostic genomics. You will need to possess a minimum Level 2 (GCSE) in Maths and English. Science -based qualifications and/or A-level qualifications would be desirable. Applicants who do not have a science-based degree are also welcome to apply.
To carry out, after appropriate training, technical and administrative tasks of a section or subsection of the laboratory.
To have good attention to details. Some essential tasks are repetitive and require specific unbroken work periods.
To collaborate with other members of the section and wider department, working as a team, to achieve an effective and reliable service.
To be involved in the manipulation of fine tools and materials, which require a high degree of hand eye co-ordination and manual dexterity. This includes the operation of specialised laboratory equipment.
To work accurately, following detailed instructions and department procedures and codes of conduct.
To attend and participate in academic studies as prescribed by the learning provider.
