St Paul’s Church Knightsbridge is seeking an excellent Facilities Assistant to work alongside the team in giving the best experience to our worshippers, visitors, staff and volunteers in a welcoming, well-presented, clean, and safe building.
**THE CHURCH**
St Paul’s Knightsbridge is home to a warm, friendly, and diverse community. The church building is open 7 days a week throughout the year for daily worship, along with special services such as baptisms, weddings, funerals and memorial services. The churchis used regularly for recording sessions and concerts by groups such as the BBC Singers, and we have a series of monthly dementia-friendly concerts in conjunction with Songhaven. In December we host a number of fundraising carol services for a range of charitiessuch as Great Ormond Street Hospital, Prostate Cancer UK, and The Prince’s Foundation. There is also a parish hall which is used for a Sunday creche, a ballet school on Saturdays, and other meetings during the week.
**FACILITIES ASSISTANT RESPONSIBILITIES**
Working alongside the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Assistant will work on:
- General housekeeping and cleaning to ensure a high standard of presentation of the church building, churchyard, and hall
- Regular and reactive maintenance of equipment and plant
- Working with team members to ensure the smooth set up and running of services and other events, such as concerts and meetings
- Ensuring the building is locked and secure at the end of the working day, or after events (which may involve evening or weekend working)
- Assisting with health & safety, fire safety, and security tasks
- Assisting with managing churchyard car parkers
- Other ad hoc tasks as required
**PERSON SPECIFICATION**
**Skills & experience**:
- Experience of facilities work, including cleaning & maintenance
- Experience of working in a customer-facing environment
- Excellent communication skills - written and spoken
- Ability to deal with people who are anxious in a calm and professional manner
- Good IT skills (including Microsoft Office software)
- Professional manner
- A problem solver with a 'can do’ attitude
- A collaborative team player
- Methodical and orderly in their approach to work
- Ability to prioritize a varied workload to meet deadlines
- Ability to keep calm under pressure
- Be able to lead in an emergency, such as evacuating the building
- Physically strong - the role will involve cleaning/moving furniture/DIY
**HOURS, PAY, PENSION & HOLIDAY**
- Standard working hours are 37.5 hours per week. Exact timings will vary depending on the church schedule. Some of the hours may be worked in the evenings, on weekends, and on bank holidays.
- The salary is £28,000 per annum paid monthly in arrears.
- If eligible, employees are automatically enrolled into the church’s Workplace Pension Scheme, into which the church contributes 7% of salary, and the employee a minimum of 1%. Employees have the right to opt out of the scheme, should they wish.
- The employee will be entitled to 6 weeks paid leave each year. Dates will be approved by the line manager. It is unlikely that holiday will be granted during busy periods such as the period around Easter, and the lead-up to Christmas.
