**Job Description: Medical Receptionist in a GP Surgery**

**Position Overview**:
As a Medical Receptionist in a GP surgery your primary responsibility is to provide administrative and clerical support to ensure the smooth operation of the practice. You will be the first point of contact for patients, handling inquiries, scheduling appointments, and maintaining accurate records. Your role is crucial in creating a positive and welcoming environment for patients while adhering to medical confidentiality and data protection guidelines.

**Key Responsibilities**:
**Patient Communication and Appointment Management**:
Greet patients and visitors, both in person and over the phone, in a friendly and professional manner.

Respond to patient inquiries, providing information about the practice, services, and appointment availability.

Schedule patient appointments using the practice's appointment system, considering urgency and appointment types.

Coordinate with healthcare professionals within the practice to arrange necessary consultations and referrals.

**Administrative Duties**:
Maintain patient records, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with data protection regulations.

Enter patient demographic and medical information into the electronic medical records system.

Handle requests for medical reports, test results, and prescriptions, following established protocols.

**Practice Support**:
Assist with administrative tasks related to the daily operations of the practice, such as filing, photocopying, and organizing documents.

Monitor and order office supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels.

Help maintain a clean and tidy reception area, ensuring it is welcoming for patients.

Collaborate with colleagues to ensure efficient workflow and provide support when required.

**Confidentiality and Compliance**:
Adhere to strict patient confidentiality guidelines and data protection regulations.

Maintain knowledge of relevant policies and procedures, including those related to information governance and safeguarding.

Handle sensitive and confidential information with care, following established protocols.

**Qualifications and Skills**:
Previous experience as a medical receptionist or in a customer service role is desirable.

Good understanding of general medical terminology and familiarity with the healthcare industry is desirable.

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with patients, colleagues, and healthcare professionals is essential.

Excellent organizational abilities with attention to detail, enabling accurate record-keeping and appointment management is essential.

Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Empathy, compassion, and a friendly demeanour to create a welcoming environment for patients.

Compliance to ensuring all mandatory training is completed and up to date.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time
Part-time hours: 30-37.5 per week

**Salary**: From £10.50 per hour
