Kettering, United Kingdom Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Level 3 Maternity Support Workers (MSW's) will work alongside the midwives and other teams in both hospital and community setting.

The post holder will use additional skills within focused aspects of service delivery to enhance the care offered to women/birthing persons and their families throughout pregnancy, birth and postnatal periods. Level 3 MSWs work alongside and under the guidance of practitioners at all levels from across the multidisciplinary team, including but not limited to obstetricians, midwives, ultra sonographers, physiotherapist and advanced nurse practitioners.

Level 3 MSWs provide direct delivery of clinical care to women/birthing persons and babies accessing maternity services. They may serve as a point of contact/support for women/birthing persons and their families and provide clinical, physical, psychological, and emotional care and support. They provide appropriate information and, where necessary, signpost to wider support organisations.

The primary role of the Maternity Support Worker (MSW) is to assist, support and work in collaboration with the midwife and the wider multidisciplinary team; in order to provide a safe and holistic approach to women centered care.

The midwife is ultimately responsible for the care of the mother and her new-born(s), and it is under the direct or indirect supervision of the midwife that the MSW assists with and provides clinical care following completion of any relevant or appropriate training. The post is rotational and the employee will be provided with appropriate training for the clinical setting in which they are working. These settings include antenatal inpatient or outpatient care, intrapartum inpatient care and postnatal inpatient and outpatient care.

A trainee Maternity support worker will commence as a Band 2 and progress to Band 3 following completion of competencies for Maternity Support Worker Band 3.

This may be particularly relevant to employees who are looking to progress and prepare for entry into a programme of further study or development.

This role will be for a minimum of 30hours per week with an expectation of self development.
