**Job overview**:
**The Blood Science Department is looking for an Administration Assistant to undertake duties for Senior Personnel within Biochemistry and Haematology, and to provide support for the Microbiology service.**

The post is Part time working 32 hours a week. Working days and hours are flexible within reason and can be discussed at or prior to interview.

**Main duties of the job**:
To undertake a range of administrative duties (e.g. report writing and data gathering, meeting minute taking, incoming postal organisation and diary management for key senior staff within biochemistry and haematology and to ensure the provision of efficient and effective laboratory services.

You will possess excellent communication skills and must be able to work on your own initiative.

You will be able to organise and prioritise workload and balance this with the demands of this diverse and varied role.

You will have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, RSA II or equivalent typing, and have a strong commitment to personal and professional development.

- Deal with enquiries
- Deal with incoming and outgoing mail
- Act as first point of contact for all communications to senior staff
- Enter patient results into the laboratory IT system
- Perform data gathers and process data
- Perform general data input, word processing and excel processing
- Plan and organise departmental meetings
- Prepare agendas for meetings
- Arrange meetings
- Work fluidly with colleagues
- Arrange travel requirements
- Take phone calls and direct as appropriate
- Liaise with Purchasing & Supplies
- Maintain and order office and laboratory supplies
- Raise purchase orders and process invoices
- Liaise with engineers and estates department
- Record staff leave and additional payments within SMART
- Input data into Q Pulse

**Essential criteria**:

- GCSE English Language or equivalent experience
- GCSE Mathematics or equivalent experience
- Third GCSE or equivalent experience

**Desirable criteria**:

- ECDL or equivalent IT qualification
- NVQ in administration or equivalent
- Typing/ Word processing qualification RSA II or equivalent

**Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience**:
**Essential criteria**:

- At least 2 years office experience

**Desirable criteria**:

- Experience of Diary Management
- Experience of minute taking
