Neonatal Governance Lead

Co-ordinate and promote clinical governance and risk management processes within the Neonatal Service. Support staff in the timely reporting of all neonatal clinical incidents. Oversee and monitor the neonatal incidents reported through the Trusts incident reporting system i.e., DATIX. Collate incident statistics and monitor trends from adverse incidents.
Communicate relevant findings to promote an environment which learns from incident reporting. Work with the neonatal education team to support education and training in response to incidents. Participate in the seamless investigation of all serious untoward incidents as instructed by the Neonatal Matron &/or the Trusts Governance and Risk team. Work in partnership with the Neonatal Matron in reporting incidents to other agencies where appropriate via the Trusts Governance and Risk Management Lead.
Contribute to the maintenance and updating of the Neonatal Service Risk Register. Develop clinical policies, SOPs (standard operating procedure) and guidelines to support risk management and clinical effectiveness and ensure archiving of all old policies. Participate in relevant clinical audits and risk assessments. Promote the Duty of Candour.
Oversee national and local service evaluation and reviews and audits. To oversee the completion of agreed action plans from both national and local strategies, benchmarking standards and clinical audits. To participate in the Care Quality Indicators as required, receive feedback from audits and produce/monitor action plans as required. To support the Pathway to Excellence and assessment and accreditation.
Work in partnership with the Neonatal Matron/Clinical Lead to support the complaints process. Contribute to the prompt and succinct management of neonatology complaints within required timeframes. Maintain a current record of complaints. Support the service to instigate changes in practice or systems in response to issues identified through the Trust complaint procedure.
Provide advice for staff at department level and enable frontline staff to deal with complaints appropriately. Support the complaints process through ongoing dialogue with the Trusts Patient Advice and Liaison Services Team (PALS). Act as the point of contact for the Patient Advice and Liaison Services Team (PALS) Act as a point of contact for families. Ensure staff involved in the complaints process are supported in a sensitive manner.
Produce timely reports which detail the themes and trends over designated reporting periods e.g., previous quarter. Regularly feedback to the Management Team and the staff regarding trends and themes or individual issues. Always maintain confidentiality relating to patients, staff, and the Trust. Monitor the departments compliance in governance issues.
Assist with ATAIN national audit. Support the Neonatal Matron and the Ward Manager with current governance issues as they arise; and assist in the production and monitoring of action plans. Support the Neonatal Matron and Trusts Governance and Risk Lead in major escalation plans. Ensure safety plans and procedures are up to date for the service and workforce.
Ensure Neonatal Business Continuity plans are in place and up to date.
