**User Researcher **(Inside IR35)**

**Contract Term: 6 Months***

**Contracting Authority: Cabinet Office - GDS**

**Location: Hybrid - London, Manchester or Bristol**

**As a User researcher your main responsibilities will be to**:

- Plan, design and prepare a range of user research activities to support the design, development and continuous improvement of the programme.
- Carry out a wide range of user research activities from recruiting participants, preparing discussion guides and moderating research sessions.
- Lead colleagues to analyse research data and synthesise clear and actionable findings.
- Communicate user research findings to help the team and wider organisation develop a deep understanding of users and their needs.
- Work closely with our other data SMEs to turn user research findings into stories and actions that lead to valuable improvements.
- Build user centred practices, through presentations, training sessions and hands-on delivery.
- Contribute to the wider user research community - including presenting at meetups, writing blog posts and leading on aspects of practice.

**You’ll have relevant experience in**:

- Experience of advocating for user research and engaging sceptical colleagues and stakeholders.
- The ability to understand the complex problems a team is trying to solve and align user research activities to inform decision making and action.
- Data Project experience.
- Experience working with users and working with other stakeholders to gather information.
- Experience of introducing new research methods and helping teams to adopt and choose the most effective/ appropriate user research methods, analysis and synthesis techniques and approaches to presenting and sharing findings.
- Experience of helping teams to adopt user centred service design and delivery practices and embed them into their agile workflow.
- While this work is ultimately to benefit the public who use government services, the users of government data are primarily based in government departments and settings such as universities, think tanks and so on. Therefore, much of your research will be with civil servants and specialist users of data, rather than with the general public.
