JOB PURPOSE
- Responsibility for arranging elective admissions for patients added to the Trust Waiting List according to clinical need & the 18week referral to treatment (RTT) target.
- Responsibility for the effective and efficient management of a specialty / specialties waiting list.
- Responsibility for arranging Pre-Assessment (POA) appointments for patients added to the waiting list.
- Responsibility for assisting with the efficient functioning and smooth running of the Central Admissions office.
- Offering a friendly, polite and personal point of contact for all patients
PATIENT ACCESS AND ADMINISTRATON DEPARTMENT
The Admissions Department is looking for a motivated, organised individual. You will work as part of this team to ensure that patients are admitted to hospital in a timely and efficient manner, making the process as smooth as possible for patients and clinicians.
The role of an Admissions Officer requires you to have your own area of responsibility following a successful probation period. During your first 6 months you will learn specialties within the Department. Full training will be given in order that you are fully competent in processes and work within policy & procedure guidelines.

COMMUNICATION AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
- Exchange information with patients and staff on the admission, transfer and discharge of patients both verbally and in written format.
- Communicate with patients over the telephone including dealing with anxious patients and patients with cultural or language differences.
- The post holder will provide and receive routine information to inform work colleagues, staff from other departments and external contacts. Information will frequently be of a sensitive nature and
confidentiality must be ensured at all times.
- Any telephone and face-to-face enquiries will be dealt with efficiently and with understanding and action taken as appropriate
Responsibility for Patients
- Provides non-clinical advice and information to patients.
- Provides advice to patients and relative in relation to admissions transfers and discharges.
- Deals with patient enquiries regarding their admission and takes appropriate action.
- Liaises with ambulance control regarding patients requiring transport to and from the Hospital.Sends for patients for elective and planned surgery in accordance with Trust Policy & procedure and replace all cancellations in accordance with clinical appropriateness.
Responsibility for Policy and Service Development
- Is thoroughly conversant with Admissions procedures and the Patient Access Policy.
- Ensures the smooth and efficient processing of elective admissions in line with departmental guidelines.
- Understands the principles of the Patient Booking Programme and assists in the administrative procedures involved.
- Assists the Surgery Access Manager in the development of Policies and Procedures within the Central Admissions team.
