**Research Officer**

**Role type**: 3 month contract (temp to perm)

**Salary**: £25,000 per annum

**Location**: Home Working or office working dependant on location / preference

We are seeking an experienced Researcher to join our small team at Shabaka. You will support the development and delivery of Shabaka’s portfolio of research projects. As a Researcher, you will be responsible for ensuring quality and timely outputs that contributeto the Shabaka’s research, evidence, and learning activities.

The Researcher should have excellent attention to detail and extensive experience in research and upskilling programmes. Also, they should have strong interpersonal skills to communicate complex information in a simple style and build relationships withvarious internal and external partners. In addition, lived experience as a diaspora and having worked in the development and/or humanitarian sector would be considered an asset.

**Main duties and responsibilities**

The Research Officer role includes the following duties:
**Research and evidence**
- Support the design and delivery of the Shabaka research and communications strategy and activities.
- Incorporate special emphasis on research and evidence strategies and activities that improve participation and service-delivery outcomes in collaboration with project partners.
- Undertaking desk/ internet research and conducting primary data collection, when required (e.g. surveys, key informant interviews)
- Analysis of qualitative and quantitative data
- Making sure that all the research outputs for Shabaka’s projects are of the highest standards.

**Project evaluation and reporting**
- Support the preparation of project deliverables, including project work plans, quarterly and annual reports, final project report and project activity updates, and other project-related communication and reporting materials in accordance with project deadlinesand branding guidelines
- Lead the oral and written reporting of the research activities and results on a weekly, and monthly basis.
- Using IT or other systems to keep track of people and progress (Asana)

**Coordination**
- Support internal and external communication to ensure efficient coordination and decision-making with project partners

**Other**
- Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Research and Advocacy Manager.

**Skills and Qualifications**

**Education**
- Studies in International Development, Migration, Politics, Business Studies, Communications or related discipline.

**Experience**
- 3+ years’ experience in the development and implementation of research/communications programmes and projects
- Excellent diplomacy skills and proven ability to establish and maintain relationships with donors, senior government officials and other key stakeholders such as NGOs, CSOs and the private sector.
- Knowledge/awareness of International NGOs/ Organisations/ charity ecosystem globally or/and in the UK
- Experience in developing and managing budgets
- Experience in developing, supporting and delivering projects

**Competencies**
- Able to work independently and remotely
- Solid analytical, drafting and organisational skills
- Ability to resolve sensitive and complicated work issues with all project partners, donor representatives, and senior-level staff.
- Excellent research skills
- Experience in stakeholder relations management.
- Able to work a multicultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships.
- Ability to manage own workload.Attention to detail, good prioritisation and planning skills.
- Exceptional reliability, good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Flexible and positive attitude with the willingness to re-prioritise workload to respond to emerging demands.
- Verbal and written fluency in English, along with strong communications, interpersonal, and presentation skills, is required. Additional language skills are also desirable.
