The School of Engineering is seeking to recruit a talented and enthusiastic Assistant Professor in the area of Control and Engineering Biology. We are looking for someone who can help us strengthen and broaden our research activities, while also contributing to our core teaching aims.
Research areas of particular interest for this appointment include: systems modelling and control, engineering biology/synthetic biology and data analytics, although other relevant areas may be considered.
You will have a PhD in a relevant discipline and must be able to demonstrate the capability to establish an independent research group which has the ambition and potential to become internationally leading. You will initiate, develop, and deliver high quality research, publish top-tier journal papers, and demonstrate the potential for impact from your research.
You are also expected to have the relevant experience and skills to deliver teaching and assessment in Control and Engineering Biology and related areas in Systems and Information Engineering, and you may teach on a range of taught programmes at undergraduate, specialised masters, and/or degree apprenticeship levels. You are expected to engage with higher education pedagogy and be willing to develop novel teaching methods, embracing changes in teaching technology and expectations.
You will be appointed for a probationary period (usually five years) during which there is a reduced teaching and administration load to enable you to establish your research group. Successful completion of probation will coincide with promotion to a permanent Associate Professor position. You are also expected to have the relevant experience and skills to deliver teaching and assessment in Control and Engineering Biology and related areas in Systems and Information Engineering, and you may teach on a range of taught programmes at undergraduate, specialised masters, and/or degree apprenticeship levels. **JOB PURPOSE**
To undertake research, teaching, administration, and other activities in order to develop own career and profile, supporting the work of the School of Engineering and developing and enhancing its reputation, both internal and external to the University.
**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**
**Research and scholarship**
1. To carry out independent research of internationally recognised standard in control and engineering biology.
4. To publish research in appropriate refereed journals of international standing, and to disseminate the outcomes of research and scholarship in other appropriate outlets.
5. To engage in external academic activities in accordance with the School of Engineering’s research strategy, including those which enhance the School’s national/international research profile. Such activities may include presentation of research papers at conferences, membership of committees of academic or professional bodies, external examining, participation in knowledge transfer activities, development of industrial links, development of external academic collaboration, and holding journal editorships.
6. To develop joint research activities with other members of academic staff in the School of Engineering and the wider Warwick community.
**Teaching and Learning Support**
1. To engage diligently in teaching and assessment at all levels using relevant teaching methods (including lectures, seminars, laboratories, and tutorials, these may be in person, on-line as well as pre-recorded), working as a collegial member of the School of Engineering’s teaching team.
4. To supervise undergraduate and taught postgraduate student individual and group projects and, where appropriate, to supervise placements and field trips.
5. To take responsibility for academic duties (e.g., setting examination questions, marking, invigilation and pastoral support of students) required to sustain the delivery of high-quality teaching.
6. To co-ordinate and undertake pastoral support for students within the programmes, courses, or modules, liaising where necessary with other University agencies.
7. To support and comply with the University and School of Engineering teaching quality assurance standards and procedures including the provision of such information as may be required by the School of Engineering or the University.
**Administration and Other Activities**
1. To contribute to School of Engineering committees and administrative duties and tasks and taking on additional duties to support the School as required. Supporting School open and offer holder days.
