**Job summary**:
The Security Industry Authority (SIA), the UK Government’s Arm’s Length body responsible for the regulation of the private security industry, are looking for two Intelligence Researchers to join their intelligence Unit, part of the Inspections and Enforcement team, on a permanent basis.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding public body with a key remit to protect the public from harm by tackling those who pose the greatest harm and risk.

**Job Purpose**

To be a member of the Intelligence Team - To support the development and delivery of strategic and operational intelligence and risk products.

You will research, gather and assess information and intelligence from a variety of sources internally and externally.

You will produce clear, concise and accurate research products to support intelligence development and SIA business activity.

**Job description**:
**Responsibilities**
- To propose, discuss and agree the parameters (i.e. scope, timescales, outcomes) for research with customers of the Intelligence Team.
- To undertake in-depth research of information to inform decision makers. Collect and collate information from a variety of internal and external sources. Evaluate the information for its reliability, validity, usefulness and any consequent impact this may have upon the research. Maintain a full audit trail for each piece of research.
- To obtain, update and manipulate large data sets, both numerical and text. Produce this using a variety of tools including (but not limited to) databases, spreadsheets, geographic information systems, social media tools and data visualisation software, highlighting patterns, anomalies and irregularities in the data.
- To identify trends, series, links and intelligence gaps through timely research of all necessary internal systems and external sources (e.g. internet, social media or partner agencies).
- To develop research reports and briefings for operational use, summarising clearly, concisely and accurately key research findings, in an evidential format if necessary.
- To attend meetings and give presentations as appropriate.
- To help improve the quality of the SIA’s internally held data resolving (or referring to the appropriate person to remedy) data errors identified during the course of research.
- To provide support to spontaneous, critical events as directed.
- To undertake any other reasonable duties as requested from time to time, within the jobholder’s capabilities.
- Ensure procedures and practices comply with SIA Policies, the Data Protection Act, the Freedom of Information Act, the Human Rights Act, and all relevant legislation.

**Person specification**:
**Relevant Knowledge, Skills and Experience**
- Experience of working as an Intelligence Researcher, ideally in a law enforcement or regulatory regime.
- Understanding of The Private Security Act 2001.
- Understanding of the SIA’s regulatory products.
- Understanding and experience of legislation relating to the control and processing of information, particularly the Data Protection Act, the Freedom of Information Act, and the Human Rights Act.
- Understanding and experience of working with the principles of intelligence and risk models, for example, the National Intelligence Model.
- Understanding and experience of the development and production of effective and efficient intelligence and risk research products.
- Ability to form strong, positive working relationships both inside and outside of an organisation.
- Ability to influence and negotiate with key contacts.
- Practical knowledge of intelligence software, ideally i2 and including; iBase, Analyst Notebook, Data Mapping and Data Miner.
