**Role Overview**:
Responsible for overall management and control of the transport operation including Freight Forwarding and Pallet Network_**.**_

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Acting as a key representative for the Company’s transport management, responsible for maintaining strong business relationships with the customers.
- Responsibility for holding an in-depth understanding of all commercial elements of each customer contract.
- Review and assess customer contracts, especially new accounts, to develop a clear understanding of their requirements and service level agreements.
- Filter customer requirements and service level agreements to the operational team to ensure that operationally the department can fulfil the requirements.
- Raising competencies and performance in all areas of transport activity to contribute to business efficiency and to gain a competitive advantage.
- Lead, develop and motivate direct reports to ensure they reach their full potential and subsequently contribute to the overall performance of the business and deliver excellent service.
- Overseeing planning and optimization of transport resources of both own fleet and third party.
- Ensuring effective planning and utilization of drivers and sub-contract haulage for all deliveries by the Transport Planning Team.
- Planning daily workload for an allocated fleet of vehicles including and managing wage to revenue, driver expenses, fuel to revenue and total running costs.
- Providing communication and advice on relevant current, new and proposed legislation to the transport team.
- Ensuring effective fleet management and administration is completed accurately and efficiently.
- Ensuring records are managed relating to vehicles and drivers i.e., relating to vehicle roadworthiness, drivers’ hours, and Working Time Directive (WTD).
- Supporting any company initiatives by promoting solutions and best practice through various forums.
- Daily management of all customer accounts.
- Managing Key Performance Indicator reporting.
- Deputizing for the Director of Transport in their absence.
- Compliance with all vehicle and operator license requirements combined with maintaining in house and legal standards.
- Compliance with GVOL requirements and transport regulations, with emphasis towards ‘best practice’.
- Ensuring all transport operations, practices and procedures are managed in line with the Company’s Health & Safety Policy and other statutory requirements.
- Leading and supporting on investigations and disciplinary procedures within the department when required.
- Proactively support and adhere to all HR, GDPR and Health & Safety policies to ensure the Company and Department are fully compliant.

**Skills/Experience/Qualifications**:

- Transport Managers CPC
- Proven, previous experience as a Transport Manager within a general haulage environment
- Experience of working within 3PL, Logistics operation
- Experience of delivering mpg improvements
- Be able to demonstrate a record of successfully instigating revenue improvements or cost reduction initiatives
- Proven track record in discipline and grievance management
- Well-developed analytical, planning, co-ordination, and negotiation skills
- Ability to produce data and information to identify opportunities and cost saving initiatives
- Strong IT Skills
- Excel Word/Forms/Outlook/PowerPoint
- Transport Management Systems (Mandata would be desirable)
- Transport operations and commercial awareness
- Digital tachograph information and its uses
- Degree in Logistics, business, supply chain management or related field ( desirable)
- Full UK Driving licence Cat B

**Salary**: £60,000.00-£70,000.00 per year
