The role represents an exciting opportunity to support Royal Navy Comms activity across HMNB Clyde - the largest military base in Scotland and Home of the UK’s Submarine Service - and across Scotland and Northern Ireland.

**Job description**:
The RN Senior Regional Press Officer (Scotland & Northern Ireland) is the senior regional press officer based at HMNB Clyde. They support RN Comms activity in accordance with the RN Strategy and messaging across HMNB Clyde and the Scotland & Northern Ireland region.

Key functions are:
**Naval Base Press Officer**: Supporting RN Comms activity at HMNB Clyde, delivering comms outputs on behalf of NBC Clyde and acting as principal comms adviser to COMSUBFLOT. HMNB Clyde includes the Faslane site, the UK Strategic Weapons Facility at RNAD Coulport, the Clyde Off-Site Centre (COSC) at Rhu, and other MOD-owned or leased lands allocated for use in support of HMNB Clyde. This includes a number of authorised berths, anchorages and buoys for nuclear vessels in Scotland and elsewhere. Tasks include:

- The post holder will identify and implement positive communications and engagement opportunities within the Naval Base and its lodger units.
- They will also act as the responsible officer for reactive communications, providing early identification when issues have a reputational impact beyond the Naval Base or region.
- Responsible for producing content for, managing and delivering content to digital platforms specific to the Naval Base, its lodger units, and associated sites.
- Participating in a 24/7 out of hours duty rota on behalf of HMNB Clyde to ensure that a RN spokesperson is available to the Scottish media at all times. To ensure that MOD and Fleet duty press officers are aware of breaking issues both during the working day and silent hours. This will attract an On-Call Allowance.
- Responsibility for the provision and participation in on-call support to the Clyde Nuclear Emergency Response Organisation (NERO) - at two hours’ notice to move - and Nuclear Emergency Back Up Support Team (NEBUST) - at one hour notice to move when activated. This includes the opening and assuming control of media assets at the Clyde Off-Site Media Centre (COSC) in the event of an emergency.
- Maintaining and exercising the media elements of both NERO and NEBUST on a regular basis, and responsibility for HMNB Clyde’s emergency comms plan, in collaboration with all internal and external stakeholders.
- The post holder will also liaise with external agencies engaged in the development of the Base and regional agencies such as local authorities, government departments, and emergency services.
- Assessing and supporting communications and engagement opportunities within the region, the early identification of communications and engagement opportunities, and potential reputational threats, bringing them to the attention of RN Comms.

**News Manager**: The post holder will lead on the generation and delivery of RN operational news stories from across the region. This includes:

- Preparing, approving, and issuing media releases to news organisations and publishing content onto RN digital channels. Also, monitoring the impact and mediate when required, with support from media officers, digital channel managers, and RN Intranet managers.
- Providing news and media advice to MOD’s Directorate of Defence Communications (DDC), outstations, senior officers, RN press officers and front line unit PROs.
- Seeking Subject Matter Expert and Policy Secretariat advice where appropriate and required.
- Keeping up to date with current affairs and the news agenda - both online and offline - that may impact on the RN’s reputation, in close liaison with the Reactive News Team Leader.
- Maintaining working relationships with external media outlets and ensuring coherent messaging and maintaining adherence to the RN Comms Strategy, the RN IC Strategy, and the broader Defence Communications Strategy.
