**Overall Purpose of Role: **
To prevent and relieve homelessness in the city by assisting customers to either retain their present accommodation or by the provision of an alternative housing resolution and ensuring access to suitable housing for those in need in line with the HomelessnessStrategy and relevant statutory legislation.

**Details of the role including technical requirements**:

- Need to have the essential criteria.
- Understanding of homelessness that the team can train upon.
- Homelessness Legislation involved and important. Legal knowledge would be good but not a dela breaker.
- Training provided but can pick up and learn quickly. Willingness to learn and pick things up quickly.
- Homelessness assessments - single person or family present or threatened as homeless.
- Relief Stage - already homeless
- Prevention Stage - in the process of becoming homeless.
- Will hold a caseload and progress these cases in the legal timeframe.
- Have to make decisions as to whether situations that come in are an emergency or can be booked in, in the future.
- Legal Decision Letters will be used (templates to help).
- Worked in a Hostel or Homelessness environment would be helpful.
- Related knowledge and transferable skills.
- Good customer care skills - empathy and understanding.

**Key Job Activities**:

- Provides an effective, professional and customer-friendly service on behalf of the council including offering a full range of advice on housing options and a comprehensive homelessness prevention service.
- Manages a large, varied and complex caseload. Including handling the service’s more complex cases for example handling illegal eviction cases in the private sector, handling higher-profile / sensitive cases and managing referrals from other local authorities.
- Develops, updates and reviews personalised housing plans with customers, identifying actions that lead to customers retaining their current accommodation or securing new suitable accommodation.
- Develops effective working relationships with colleagues, other council and statutory services, external bodies, service users, landlords as well as voluntary and other housing organisations and ensures effective sign-posting / referrals. Participates inpartnership working including attendance at meetings as deputy portfolio lead.
- Maintains accurate written and computer records, reports and other monitoring information as required and keep other records necessary to provide an adequate management information database.
- Mentors and supports lower-level officers and is a source of advice for the service in their identified area/s of expertise and / or where they are deputy portfolio lead.Includes occasionally providing training to groups of people.
