As a key member of the key you will provide an efficient and effective administrative and clerical support service in line with service requirements. As an important link between clinical staff, patients and GPs, the post holder will be expected to always project a positive and professional image.
- Participate in all administrative and clerical duties within the Emergency Department and maintain professional code of conduct.
- Use the hospital CareFlow system to ensure that all data is correctly recorded. Register new patients, double registration resolution, registered referrals. Prepare NMUH notes with labels and front sheet as appropriate.
- Use the NHS Summary Care Records (SCR) to ensure the correct NHS number is assigned to patients on CareFlow and update hospital system with GP details if not provided at registration.
- Ensure that all outpatient appointments such as EPAU, ENT and Fracture clinic are actioned.
- Support the EPAU, Fracture clinic and ENT out of hours - photocopying patient’s notes in preparation for clinic.
- Be confident and pro-active during a major incident in line with the Trust’s Major Incident policy.
- Provide IT support to clinical staff.

We also provide community services and have a dedicated 0-19 service for children and young people in Enfield so that they can get the best possible start in life. This includes health visitors and school nurses who are delivering the national Healthy Child Programme, which provides a structured framework for the delivery of key interventions to support the health and wellbeing of children and families from 0 to 5 and school aged children from 5-19. The 0-19 service aims to improve pathways and partnerships with services in the hospital and deliver excellent care for the children and families.

- Batch print GP letters and prepare for posting.
- Work with the department security personnel to ensure safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
- Report any aggressive or abusive behaviour to security and ED nurse in charge and complete an incident form (Datix).
- Collect urgent requests for medical notes from main file out of hours.
- Deal with telephone and other enquiries promptly and effectively. Provide an empathic service to public/ patients.
- Ensure you keep up to date with all training and service improvements.
- Cover the work of other emergency reception staff, as the grade of the post allows, for annual leave and sickness.
- Be responsible with other members of the multi-professional team, for reporting faults of equipment, ensuring safety of others within the department and ensuring the non-clinical areas within the Emergency Department are kept clean and tidy. Where the post holder identifies any discrepancies within the service this should be reported in the first instance to his/ her line manager.
- Participate and be pro-active within team/ ward meetings within the Emergency Department. Ensure all complaints or patient issues are recorded and escalated to the line manager in a timely fashion including those resolved by the post holder.
- Assist as required in carrying out any recommendations from audits, national service framework or governmental or departmental initiatives or research projects
- Maintain clerical and mandatory competencies.
- After training, undertake other duties as required by the needs of the department.
- Ensure all documentation, including patient’s records, is filed in a timely way in accordance with department protocols. To track
