**Job Introduction**:
Would you like to be a part of an exciting new journey for a brand-new service providing day to day support for individuals with learning disabilities, autism and additional needs located in Ashington?
Could you see yourself supporting our tenants to live fulfilled lives? Do you enjoy going on day trips, and exploring the local area to help source meaningful activities for our tenants? Would you be able to inject some liveliness into the boring tasks such as cleaning and cooking? Can you see yourself encouraging people to build relationships with the local community and helping the people we support maintain relationships with those important to them?
As a Support Worker, you will make a real difference to people’s lives and you may also make a positive difference to your own life. You will receive bespoke training and development opportunities. 100% of our management team in Northumberland began their career with Turning Point as a support worker. We realise though that not everyone wants to climb the ladder which is perfect too - many of our staff have remained happy in a support worker roll for over 15 years.
If you can communicate in many different ways, If you are friendly, respect others and have a desire to make a positive impact in the lives of the people we support then we would love to hear from you
**Shift Patterns**
This is a 24-hour service; therefore, flexibility is essential. You will be working a range of shifts including nights and some weekends. There is always the option to discuss flexible shifts such as nights only, weekends only and part time hours.
**Role Responsibility**:
**What will I be doing?**
This is a hands-on job in which no two days are the same. Your duties will include:
- promoting the independence of people we support
- supporting a full range of daily activities including cleaning and cooking, days out or going away on holiday
- arranging activities in the home and in the local community
- developing life skills and personal interests
- helping our people stay safe and healthy.
- assisting or prompting with personal care needs
- supporting people with medication
- ensuring record keeping is always maintained to the required standard and contributing to service monitoring requirements.
**What skills and qualities do I need to have?**
Whilst knowledge of learning disabilities and complex needs would be beneficial, it isn't essential. What is essential is that you are:
- passionate, caring, and enthusiastic
- flexible, patient, and non-judgemental
- a great team player with lots of energy
- able to demonstrate good communication skills.
- able to complete the physical aspects of the role such as manual handling where needed.
- transferable experience of helping people to manage anxiety.
