The urological cancer service at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHT) diagnoses and treats prostate, bladder, renal and testicular cancer. ICHT is a regional Urological Cancer Centre and hosts the North West London Urological Cancer Specialist MDT and is the supra-regional centre for Testis cancer along with Mount Vernon. The Specialist MDT serves patients referred to St Mary’s, Charing Cross, Chelsea & Westminster, Ealing, West Middlesex, Hillingdon and Northwick Park Hospitals. This meeting is video-conferenced across the network.

The Imperial Prostate service runs the RAPID pathway for the diagnosis of clinically significant prostate cancer, which was pioneered by Professor Hashim Ahmed. The RAPID pathway incorporates the latest advances in the diagnosis of prostate cancer in to a single pathway. This includes the use of multi-parametric MRI, image fusion devices to fuse the mp-MRI information on to the ultrasound image to improve the accuracy of biopsy and the use of the transperineal approach for prostate biopsyThe Imperial Prostate service offers a range of treatment options for those patients diagnosed with prostate cancer including Focal Therapy (HIFU and Cryotherapy) and robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomyThe Urology Department is closely aligned with Imperial College London, with a Professor and Chair of Urology. The research focus is on diagnostics and treatment for prostate cancer and benign prostate disease. Recruitment to trials is well supported
- he post holder will provide high quality care to patients in urology.
- The post holder must be medically qualified and maintain GMC registration.
- To develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.
- To ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care activities.
- To ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.
- To take an active role in managing patient pathways in their respective area.
- To undertake administrative duties associated with their patients in line with departmental guidelines.
- To support with the training of junior specialist trainees and other junior doctors in the Urology department.
- To oversee the appropriate booking of prostate cancer theatre lists.
- To demonstrate excellent leadership skills within the wider urology team.
- To work collaboratively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and Imperial College as required.
- Adhere to Trust / departmental guidelines on leave including reporting absence.
