The role will provide inpatient and day case surgery, outpatient clinics including 2WW clinics and flexible cystoscopy and prostate template biopsy These posts are an ideal opportunity for suitably qualified individuals looking to develop skills within a Urology department with a specialist interest in continence, prostate cancer, the management of BPH (PVP, bipolar TURP and Urolift) and Urinary Stone management. Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust is a community focused provider of local and acute care, providing high quality services to over one million people living across the London boroughs of Lewisham, Greenwich and Bexley. With a turnover of around £700 million, we provide services at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich, University Hospital Lewisham and a range of community settings in Lewisham. We also provide some services at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. As an organisation, we’ve made significant improvements for patients and staff in the last two and-a-half years. This is reflected in our most recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection (from February 2020), which found improvements across the organisation and gave us an improved rating of “Good” in the Well-Led and Effective domains, in addition to the rating of “Good” that we had already achieved in the Caring domain. Our staff culture change programme has been key to the Trust’s improvement journey, as we’ve stabilised our workforce by reducing vacancy rates and improving staff retention. We’ve also significantly increased the representation of minority ethnic leaders across our clinical and corporate teams. Clinical **Responsibilities**: The successful applicant will work within the urology team. There will be a major commitment to "core” urology including outpatient clinics, main theatre and day surgery operating lists, flexible cystoscopy lists and trans-rectal prostate biopsy lists. Attendance at the weekly oncology MDT meeting, bi-monthly continence MDT is expected. On-call The urologists work a 1:6 rota with prospective cover (Monday to Thursday and Friday to Sunday). The on-call duties cover in-patients in both sites and A & E in QEH site only (UHL A&E still covered by GSTT). Teaching There is a regular morbidity and mortality meeting which all members of the department are expected to attend. The post-holder will be expected to participate in teaching of medical students, foundation doctors and core surgical and specialist trainees. Administration An administrative session is part of the job plan and the post holder will have responsibilities to maintain good documentation and timely communication of discharge and treatment plans with colleagues in the community.
