**Could you lead a programme of work to ensure Scotland’s social work services are trauma responsive?**

This unique and exciting opportunity will see you located within the Office of the Chief Social Work Adviser, responsible for planning, with responsibility for a programme of implementation support and trauma training. This involves training that supports practice at enhanced practice level, in line with Transforming Psychological Trauma: A knowledge and skills framework for the Scottish workforce, for those working in Scotland’s social work services.

The Office of the Chief Social Work Adviser (OCSWA) is the key source in Scottish Government for professionally informed advice across the range of government policy and delivery related to social work and social care. A programme of work has been developed in partnership with key stakeholders that includes social work education, post qualifying training and implementation support to develop trauma-responsive social work services. A Partnership Delivery Group is currently working to ensure the implementation of the programme.

You will be directly accountable to the Chief Social Work Adviser. Working closely with the Professional Social Work Adviser for Psychological Trauma and the Expert Advisory Group, you will provide oversight and leadership to a small team who will engage with social work services that are working to develop their service provision. The team will work closely with the Trauma, ACEs and Resilience Unit (Scottish Govt), Improvement Service (IS) and NHS Education Scotland (NES), supporting work to embed trauma enhanced practice in trauma responsive systems and services, across children’s, adult and justice social work services in Scotland.

**This role is a full time Fixed Term Appointment (with Fair and Open Competition) for a period of 23 months, with the possibility of extension up to 47 months. Two year secondment opportunities will also be considered, as can alternative working hours and patterns.**

**Job description**:

- Establish and oversee an implementation team to deliver a cohesive programme of workforce support for organisational change, for the social work workforce, including support for operational middle and front line social work leaders.
- Responsible for the overall programme budget, ensuring appropriate spend and accountability.
- Report on the work and progress of the programme to the Partnership Delivery Group and the Scottish Government’s National Steering Group on Trauma Training.
- Co-ordinate a programme of workforce support ensuring the team provide implementation support, consultancy and coaching.
- Ensure the programme includes a suitable range of relational and developmental trauma focused trainings, involves a focus on power sharing and co-design with people with lived experience to develop trauma-informed policies, procedures, systems and environments.
- Ensure the programme is informed by current, innovative and evidence based approaches to developing trauma informed services, systems and workforces, to embed trauma enhanced practice and aligns with the forthcoming Quality Indicator Framework for Trauma Informed Services, Systems and Workforces.
- Work with the SSSC to ensure the overall programme is suitable for endorsement for the social work workforce and with NES to align with the Transforming Psychological Trauma: A knowledge and skills framework for the Scottish workforce.
- Identify further gaps in sector specific training and development requirements, relating to the social work workforce and service delivery.
- Work with OCSWA to develop and commission an independent evaluation process of the implementation programme.
- Work with key partners to share learning as part of the National Trauma Training Programme.

Demonstrate and evidence a high level of competence and effectiveness in trauma enhanced practice, with direct experience in providing advocacy, therapeutic support or interventions, taking account of trauma reactions and reducing risk of re-traumatisation, or management of these services, in line with the Transforming Psychological Trauma: A Knowledge and Skills Framework for the Scottish Workforce and The Scottish Psychological Trauma Training Plan.
2. Experience of leadership in social work at a Senior level including influencing others, forming effective relationships with a wide range of partner that generate
