At National Highways, we’re looking for an Environment Specialist (Ecology) to join our team based in the South West. As part of this role, you’ll contribute to the development and delivery of projects and maintenance works for the South West region, providing technical expertise on environmental topics and outcomes.

**_You may be required to work unsociable hours and will be required to drive as part of your role and will need to have a full clean driving license to be considered for this position and during employment. _**

**What you’ll be leading on**
- Undertake the identification and evaluation of environmental data and needs to develop future renewal and improvement projects, including the compiling of relevant documents, evidence, and options for value management.
- Undertake ecological surveys, inspections and watching briefs, and the associated reporting, to support delivery of renewal and improvement projects, and management of National Highways assets in line with the defined inspections regime and statutory requirements.
- Undertake discussions with multidisciplinary teams to monitor the delivery of agreed ecological and environmental solutions and plans, liaising with the relevant teams to identify and/or rectify issues.

- Ensure that environmental inventory and condition information is captured and maintained in the relevant database(s), in line with agreed standards and timescales.

**To be successful you’ll need**
- Degree or equivalent qualification in relevant discipline or equivalent experience
- European Protected Species Licence experience
- Understanding of the Value Management process or cost benefit analysis of schemes
- Broad knowledge of aspects and impact for varying environmental receptors
- Experience of undertaking and reviewing Environmental Impact Assessments
