London, Greater London, United Kingdom Red Personnel Full time £22,000 - £35,000 per year

Specialist Housing Officer (Sheltered Housing)

Location: London, site based

Contract: 12 weeks to start (extension potential)

Pay: £22.18 PAYE / £28.21 Umbrella

Requirement: Advanced DBS (essential)

We're looking for a Specialist Housing Officer to join a sheltered housing team in London for a London Borough Council. You'll be the friendly, reliable first point of contact for older and vulnerable residents—making sure their homes and communal areas are safe, clean, and welcoming. You'll support residents with tenancy issues, help them settle in, and encourage a great sense of community.

What You'll Do

  • Provide day-to-day support to residents, helping them maintain their tenancies and access the help they need.
  • Work as part of a small team focused on making life better for older people and those who need a bit more support.
  • Make sure communal areas are up to scratch—secure, well-kept, and comfortable.
  • Report repairs and organise a handy-person for jobs that residents can't do themselves.
  • Encourage and organise social activities, using communal spaces to help residents stay connected.
  • Oversee viewings, new tenant sign-ups, and any tenancy changes (like name changes or successions).
  • Spot tenancy breaches (e.g. anti-social behaviour or unauthorised subletting) and work with the manager to resolve them.
  • Welcome new residents and answer their questions about their new home and neighbourhood.
  • Keep an eye on rent accounts, help residents stay on top of payments, and point them toward extra support if they're having trouble.
  • Make sure health and safety rules are always being followed, and respond calmly to emergencies.
  • Pitch in with team ideas to improve the service and get residents involved.
  • Keep good records to help the team measure what's working.

We're Looking For

  • Committed to equal opportunities and excellent customer service.
  • Housing qualification desired but not a must
  • You've worked in housing or a customer-facing role, especially with older or vulnerable people.
  • knowledge of safeguarding and housing management.
  • Strong IT for admin, emails, and record-keeping.
  • Highly organised, clear communicator, and calm under pressure.
  • You genuinely enjoy helping people and making services better.

You will need to be:-

  • Practical, down-to-earth, and good at solving day-to-day problems.
  • Someone who brings fresh ideas and likes working with others.
  • Confident, approachable, and knows how to put people at ease.
  • Quick to adapt and happy to muck in when things change.
  • Above all, you care about giving a great service and making a positive difference for residents.

Interviews to take place as soon as possible with a view to a start thereafter.
